We came home from Paignton yesterday & before we came home we went on the 11:15 from Paignton & returned on the 13;00 from Kingswear.
Both behind 4277 didn't have a problem on these to trips.
Both footplate crew very chatty (Chris & Richard).
We are down there again on 14th June so hopefully when there we can have a trip on KC on the Dart.
Also noted while at Paignton in the shed was the other 45xx (4588) take it's still on the market ?
As said on a post on here earlier the other 45xx (4555) is under the bridge at Churston.
Believe I read on here somewhere it's the next to go in of overhaul after 75014 is finished, it looks if it's just awaiting the boiler to return.
7827 ticket I believe run's out this year or has it been extended as it had a re-tube 2 years ago I think it was ?

Are the 45xx tank locos adequate power for the line? I may have thought that the railway would be looking to sell both of them in exchange for another large prairie like the other two, or another 'manor' or similar.

I'm not aware of any large prairies currently on the Paignton and Dartmouth railway; "the other two" are presumably 4277 and 5239 - both are 2-8-0Ts. That said, a large prairie would look great on this line - used to be quite regular performers in BR steam days.

Problem is 4588 still hasn't sold yet and also there isn't a long list of available 41/51/61xx or manors on the market

sensible deal would be the 45+cash for 4920 or 3803 assuming the SDR would be amenable

Doh - sorry totally forgot what prairie meant! Now I feel silly.

3803 would make sense as the SDR were looking to sell anyway.

I agree re: 3803. I had a footplate ride last year on Kinlet Hall (see Avatar!) The driver said that a Hall was be just a bit too cumbersome for their needs

No need to feel silly - hardly the worst mistake ever made! 3803 would look appropriate on Paignton & Dartmouth Rly, and 4588 would look great back at Buckfastleigh.

75014 is due back during 2015 when Lydham goes out of traffic. The 45 would be able to handle a 5 /6 coach train during the peak season when 2 trains are running. 4588 is still for sale I believe but don't think 3803 is anymore sue to the failure of 5526. Would be nice to see 3803 storming goodrington bank though

........and at Britannia Crossing on June 18th, similarly with the last train of the day. Until I had the conversation with the signalman and his trainee at the crossing I was unaware that the whole line is controlled from this box. Quite an impressive set up with a modern board.
