UKsteam now mentions that 34067 will take the last leg of day 2 from Bristol to Cardiff via Gloucester. Interesting...

I shouldn't read too much into that, with the climbs of Shap and Beattock no steam is going to be timed at 75.

That's quite a brisk schedule, with only a few loops stops, which makes me think it's for a 75mph loco. Two Fives will be quite quick getting away from stops, and should maintain a higher speed on the climbs than, say, Tangmere or UoSA. It's the downhill canters, like Shap-Penrith-Carlisle, where they'd lose out.

Thanks for RTT info for day 2.
Interestingly, under operational info shows diesel hauled.
    A typo, I hope???

RTT always says Diesel if it's steam.

Realtime does not have 'Steam' in it's vocabulary, so do not take it as read, always as well to confirm with UKSteam.

I wonder if I could seek some advice from photographers who are familiar with the area.

Next week I'm on holiday in Berwick upon Tweed, and it's just dawned on me it's fairly easy to get a train to North Queensferry and see Riley's finest cross the Forth Bridge on the way to Aberdeen.

Having only been through non stop on the train before, is there a road or view from the north bank that would be best for viewing the bridge ?, I'm guess its somewhere along the shore at the bottom, but is there one point that offers a better view than others ?.

The most common shot on the North bank was an open space but now (sadly for photographers) is a house. Last year, while the house was still being built, they were happy for us to come and stand on the edge of their land (which goes right to the cliff edge!) but I'm not sure whether that will still be the case. As the sun will still be in the east at the time 45407 crosses so the best option if the above shot is not available would be to get off at Dalmeny and walk down the footpath to the cycle track along the shore (cycle route 76 I believe), which in turn takes you to a nice shot of the bridge from the "scout Water Activity Centre" pier. If the sun is not out, there are many shots from the West side of the bridge on either North or South Side of the bridge

If you're up for the week, 60009 crosses the bridge three times on the SRPS's Forth Circle tour (link here) on the Sunday so you have all the different options with light - or photo and travel!. It's a busy week with (as you said) 45407 and 60009 on Wednesday and 44871 on Thursday!

Many thanks Steam Mad, I'll keep an eye on the weather as to which option I go for, sadly I head back south on the Friday, I know the A4 comes back south later on the Wednesday, but will probably head back to Berwick after the fives.

No problem - One of the few time we up North get steam on home ground so if you have any other questions fire away! The forth Circle with no.9 is the Sunday before (21st) the Great Britain is in Scotland for the record.

That doesn't mean it should have an apostrophe after it only in the plural, though, does it?
