I think we've probably had our expectations ramped up by a media given to exaggeration, which is why so many think they are in for a disappointment. I imagine that the people on the project are far more realistic.

 

Sorry to get your hopes up.
I think we all want the story to be true and geophysics say there's something down there. Whether or not it's a cache of Spitfires in even half decent condition is what we're all waiting to find out.

 

Shepherd Neame really do have a sense of humour

 

Mind you you need a sense of humour to sup some of their ales too - about as palatable as water out of a buried Spitfire crate

 

Any chance (in the absence of a real Spitfire, presumably) of a picture so us non-Facebook users have a clue what the hell you are all on about?!!

Here in kent Shepherd neame rhyming slang is s__t & scream which just about sums it up.

 

I don't particularly like Spitfire but that is just a matter of personal taste. It is a fine beer. Shepherd Neame deserve support. They are an independent family brewery that has a history from the seventeenth century. They also support mainline steam!

The romantic in me so wanted the story to be true, the sceptic in me won't be the slightest bit surprised if this turns out to have been a wild goose chase.

 

I understand they have only "done" one site so far.......

 

Don't tell anyone, but they are actually hidden with the strategic reserve..

 

Straws and clutching come to mind seeing some of the comments regarding the non existence as announced. This was supposed to the the big one with smaller numbers elsewhere. Will be interesting to see what happens next. Not sure on which thread I read it but someone forecast that the dig would be suspended because of Burmese Government intervention. seems he wasn't far from the truth with reports that said officials prohibited anything more than simple shovels after a few days of digging.
