Maybe Mr Riley from Bury could take a look - then if interested, paint it black ( with silver smokebox )

I'd definately visit America to see one running, fingers crossed it happens.

For those that haven't seen there is some great vintage footage of them running on Youtube - Union Pacific Big Boy Collection - YouTube

Any more news on this fantastic project- about time our American counterparts (albeit UP) got to grips with sorting a Big Boy!

Funny that we get so hyped up about the Big Boy - I'm not being condescending, I'm excited too - but there's been a Challenger purring around the Mid-West for years and I'm pretty sure a Y6B had a stint in preservation in the East in the 80s/90s - both only very slightly smaller and hardly less epic than a Big Boy!

Are you thinking of N&W 1218 (an 'A' class 2-6-6-4)?

Don't forget there's some rather large British built locos to be had in the Southern Hemisphere.. Some running and not preserved... Begins with a G ends with a T and articulates itself.

still a big boy would be nice.

Interesting that this is being considered but given a choice I would rather see the N & W Class A since this design is widely viewed as the best of the American articulated types. They are credited with being capable of delivering 6300dbhp, fractionally less than the far larger (some 90 tons) 4014. Then there is the sole surviving Y6b......................
