From what I understand it's has not yet been cut up. An injunction has been put in it preventing it being cut up for three weeks. So that's how long we have to save it......

If someone is going to buy it, who are you going to pay the money too? The previous owner, the landlord or the scrappy? Who is the legal owner? And what happens if there is a legal battle over ownership? (just asking).

Injunction brought by whom? Surely they're the party with the best chance of stopping it being cut up, and whether any other effort (a) is needed and (b) can succeed depends on them?

That sounds positive. If somebody has made the effort to obtain an injunction they must have enough funds in place to buy it..

I hope so, as long as its not going to just postpone cutting it up, It's obvious that the owner doesn't have the means to restore it but would he part with it, unless forced to, and then, it has to go to a site that has the facilities to restore it , not sit in another site, or field till the remains get sold on when that arrangement goes sour or the owner can't afford the storage fees once more

I presume that much of this loco, motion etc., disappeared at Barry. Can't think what it might fit.

42859 went to Barry minus coupling rods, connecting rods, return cranks and return crank rods (photo 1967). The rest of the motion was in place. It was all still there when the loco left Barry for Hull.

Barry Photos don't always give an accurate picture-rods removed to get a loco to a scrapyard were often heaved up onto the tender if a crane or hoist was available at a depot which was disposing of motive power. It's fair common knowledge that at least the con rods for 42859 still exist.

It'd be nice if it ended up at Carnforth, then we could hear nothing about it again for a few years...

    All,

Some posts which are not based on fact and are possibly open to legal challenge have been removed and the users banned for those actions.

The thread is open to continue discussion, but any comments that openly name, suggest or accuse any of the parties involved of unfounded actions (without unsupported facts)or personal attacks will be immediately removed and subject to account suspension.

To be clear, the long term owner of 42859 has, with difficulty, been trying to contact the forum, based on some ill informed messages (who's motivation for doing so was unclear).
The long term owner clearly has a lot on his mind right now. It is not NP's position to add to the those problems nor is it NP's responsibility to take sides in this dispute.

One fact that can be shared is the locomotive is subject to court order preventing it's scrapping and the long term owner is taking action.
Lets support the them in that.

Any questions please contact the Moderator team.

Good. Well done. I'm sure that I'm not the only member here who was concerned about how things appeared to be going. Here's hoping for some good news before too long.

Best of luck to the long-term owner in his efforts to retain and restore this important relic.

Let's hope he/she doesn't leave it too late before asking for help..

I hope whatever is left of the loco can be restored - even a partial restoration is better than none, and you can always do more later.

There is an article about this in the latest Steam Railway. Some of it looks quite nasty.

Does anyone know if the HRA has been involved in resolving the problems with this loco?

The SR article is very carefully worded, but the pictures say more than the words.
The tender has been dumped off it's chassis and lies on it's side on the ground, with a visible bow in it's shape, one could presume to be as a result of sudden impact with the ground it lies on or a JCB bucket perhaps ?, the chassis for the tender was visible in one shot... but gone in the week after photograph, as was the wheels (tender, driving and pony wheels, and rails they sat on).. (You may recall a few pages back a picture of the tender having been recently reassembled, rewheeled and the drivers lined up next to it ready for transport).
It also mentions the axle boxes have gone from the locos frames.

in short.. all thats left looks like a pile of bits.. its not even a Barry wreck any more... tragic.. even if whats left is saved...if there's hope to be had you could consider 32424 is being resurrected from not much more, but at this stage IMHO restoring 42700 would be a much more attractive proposition if there was ever a 2nd working crab.
