Apparently Tornado is now en-route to Wansford dragged by a diesel. Due in the next hour

It was I who phoned Steam Dream's about Thursday's cancelled tour with Tornado and others have said this does not mean they was not contacting us themselves I merely phoned of my own will to query it before they actually had, they were actually writing out a letter/email to send to passengers when I did, which I then received (email) half an hour later :) I've been totally satisfied with how they've handled it. I even received a phone call off them today double checking that I got the email/letter. They are working to get a new date for the tour of which they hope to send out to passengers who still wish to travel later this week. :)

I might be wrong but believed to be Crewed by WCRC with the locos on hire.

Thanks for clearing that up - let's hope that buseng will now accept that SD were doing all they could in the circumstances.

The move of 60163 was conducted by DBS but due to 67s being banned on the Cromer branch, and no spare 66s in the area, DRS locos were hired.
    WCRC certainly not involved.

Ralph you are right as it is affecting charter business as a whole. But it doesn't stop there.

I hear today that Amey Rail has had to cancel almost all of its weekend work because DBS drivers are not available to drive the engineering trains.

    Sad, very sad.

It's certainly having a much bigger effect than a few cancelled steam charters. The Railhead Treatment Trains are run by DBS in the West Country which is done as an overtime job - which might not be running soon.

Surely that's a job that should be handed to Freightliner, DRS etc if DBS are not in a position to do it, can't be having HST's and Voyagers sliding through station stops and stalling on banks because no water cannons are out.

I doubt it's that simple. Where are you going to get the crews who sign the traction and routes in a month? What about NR and DBS' contractual state?

Fair point, but I think with the vegetation we have now, the RHTT turns are too important to just cancel and utter chaos will result if they don't run, you can't ask Autumn to delay leaf fall like you can postpone charters and engineering work.

I agree, it might be a complete disaster but the point I'm making, as has already been made, is that there is more to the railway industry than what goes on in the world of steam hauled charters. Cancelling a few of them might disappoint a few people but not running RHTT could be a disaster.

But surely the crews from other operators are in ther same union, so although they are not in dispute with their employer, taking on DBS work will effectively mean they are supporting DBS and not there fellow members.

As states on the Torbay express website.

"it has now been confirmed that the last train of the season on Sunday, 16th September will be running and will not be effected by the industrail dispute between ASLEF the train drivers' union and train operating comapny DB Schenker."
