    Have read a snippet elsewhere that today is the 50th anniversary of when a Brush Type 4, D1500?, (Class 47) first ran on BR metals.
    This is only what I read elsewhere & cannot confirm it, others may know better.

    According to: class47.com the47s.co.uk & brushtype.co.uk -> Class47.co.uk -> Router

    D1500
    Built :: Brush Falcon Works
    Pilot Order :: February 28th 1961
    Works Number :: 342
    To traffic :: September 28th 1962

    09/62 Brush Falcon Works build number 342, the very first Class 47 locomotive, was rolled out into public view amidst much publicity. In the British Railways fleet as D1500, and later in the British Rail fleet as 47401, No.342 saw almost 30 years of service and was finally withdrawn in June of 1992. It is fitting that this pioneer machine is now preserved, and will be around for many years to come.
    09/62 At Crewe Works for weighing on the 6th, returned to Brush same day.
    09/62 At Clarence Yard (34G) on the 27th
    10/62 Worked first train KX-Hull & return on the 8th

    On this basis as it ran to Crewe from Brush and return on 6th September, I would say you are correct.

    Happy Birthday Duffs!

    I saw D1500 at Didcot in, I think late October 1962 , it was heading west on the main as we came around Didcot East Curve - exact date has gone in to the depths of time -- can anyone confirm when it was on trial on the WR
