From what i've heard it's set to be a home fleet gala as there has been no word of a visitor as of yet.

    Thanks,
    Lewis

Not heard anything yet. It was decided a few years back that our autumn gala would be more based on home fleet, and the spring event having a visitor or 2. Mainly based on the better availability of locos in the low season, compared to the back end of the main season. With several railways struggling for motive power at the moment, I'm sure people will understand that no visitor has been suggested yet.

Hold tight, and we shall see what is announced.
Currently we have 7822, 3802 and 44806 available at Llangollen. By the time of the gala 80072 and 6430 should be back from their holidays.

As soon as any further info is known, it will be posted here.

This seems very respectable, especially with the Welshpool and Llanfair Rly having their gala nearby at the same time - combined they make a long journey worthwhile!

I'm not sure what the thinking was on the dates for this event, as it's usually a bit later, but your quite right about the WLLR. I'm sure many people will do 1 day there, and the other at Llan. Much like the Swanage and Mid Hants autumn galas, being on the same weekend.

Hopefully enthusiasts will take advantage of a long journey for this. 2 birds, 1 stone and all that!

Has been withdrawn from traffic for an early 10 yearly, due to excessive side play in the axel boxes. This was causing the wheels to rub against frame rivets.

    Thanks

Never realised she needed a 10 yearly as her boiler was quite recently overhauled (< 2 years) :: News ::

As far as I'm aware, only minor work was carried out on the boiler. Replacing of 40 or so foundation ring rivets. So a retube will be needed, and the bottom end is very tired, so a full strip down of that will be needed. Some damage has been done to the frame rivets, due to the excessive play in the axels, so some of those may need replacing. So the decision has been to do the full hit, rather than patching it up to get it running for another couple of months sort of thing!

If I remember right it was late 2002 / early 2003 when it was given an original boiler cert, so it's not done too bad.

With the recent news about 6880s wheelsets could they not swap wheelsets so 6880 can go mainline? Or are 5199s wheelsets unable to go mainline? I know both groups are close.

This weekends gala will be home fleet only. 80072 should be back in Wales today.

There will be a freight running, the Thomson buffet will be out, aswell as the recently refurbished suburban.

The auto train will be running 5 trips Llangollen to Bonwm.

Not as exciting as previous events, but a good chance to see 5 home fleet locos out, all doing 3 or more round trips each.

Hopefully this will be a little drier than SSSIII! Will any of the engines that have been away from the line (80072, 6430) be returned facing Llangollen?

    Thanks,
    Lewis

The forecast is looking pretty good.

I haven't heard anything about which way they will be facing, so it will just depend on which way round the NYMR or SDR load them onto the trailer.

Just had a look on the website at the way the timetable has been released has me slightly confused. Is it that trains A/B/C only operate Saturday and Sunday?

If so, what trains will be operating tomorrow ( may have a spare hour or two to pop along! )

    Thanks

Ok, all locos are facing corwen.

And it is exactly the same timetable every day. So all 5 locos are running with mk1 sets A,B,C with the Thomson Buffet and newly turned out suburban on 1 set.

A freight train is running 2 trips, and the auto coach (choc and cream one only) doing llan to Bonwm.

I've just given the standard a good cleaning, so it looks slightly better now!

Visited the Llangollen for their very enoyable gala yesterday having last visited for SSS3 in April but, unlike SSS3 it seemed very quiet for an Autumn Gala!! Managed to get some decent pictures and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and chat with other enthusiasts unlike SSS3 which bordered on hostillity at times!!! Even the volunteers running the gala were enjoying themselves which I think always makes for a good gala!

Had a fantastic day out on Friday, although quiet on the lineside, most of the trains seemed well loaded and all crews seemed to be having a good time on their engines!

It was also good to see 6430 with only one auto trailer, made a lovely change!
