Has it moved from the L&NWR at Crewe - that's its last location AFAIK?

Perhaps the question is not where it is, I presume Crewe, but is any funding or progress being made. I saw a statement recently about the amount of standard gauge boiler work going at Crewe at the moment, perhaps they are just busy ?

    Regards

No I do not currently volunteer
No it is still sitting at the Heritage Centre looking unlike a Garratt as it is appears to be a kit of parts.

Now we've established the location of 109 beyond doubt, perhaps this thread can be closed and we can move on.

    No way.

So we have a kit of unrestored bits. So what now? Has PW actually undertaken to rebuild it or was he going to use us taxpayers on an apprentice deal while he took the credit?

We have a life-long supporter of the railway, a lovely old bloke who has just bought a house in Port. When he dies, the house and all his money will be left to the railway. Should we phone him up every day and ask him if he's dead yet?

I'm a tax-payer and I'd be happy to work on 109 as an apprentice and let PW take the credit. I'd enjoy myself and the WHR would gain another cracking loco. I don't crave publicity.

As the man said, you asked where it was, and know you know. So clearly the thread has served its purpose?

I find Andrew T's responses bizarre in the extreme. There is clearly a nerve so raw here that nobody is allowed to talk about it?
Its clear to me that the attempt to get the taxpayer to fund the restoration has failed for the moment. That's a shame as it seems to me it was a perfectly legitimate attempt to get an unrestored loco running to everyone's benefit.
What happens next is a fair question and I cannot understand why the WHR should not want it discussed so strongly . It simply does not warrant the attitude that is coming from the WHR and does demean the railway.

OK, so we know where the loco is but we do not know whether PW is going to finance this in another way or whether it will remain in bits. I doubt that the apprentice scheme will cover it now. As I have stated earlier, those who live by the press die by the press. It is quite wrong that we cannot discuss this now and it is equally wrong that PW does not 'come clean' and explain where this is all going.

"We have a life-long supporter of the railway, a lovely old bloke who has just bought a house in Port. When he dies, the house and all his money will be left to the railway. Should we phone him up every day and ask him if he's dead yet?"

Andrew, that is a fatuous response. This lovely old bloke has not announced to the world of his intentions unlike PW.

Spot on. At the time of the big publicity blaze, the focus was on PW and not so much on a government funded scheme. I am keen to see 109 rebuilt but not at the expense of more important social funding.

So the onus is on Pete Waterman to explain the situation, no amount of banging on about it on this forum is likely to get any nearer the truth as I doubt whether Mr Waterman is a member. I therefore suggest you go direct to him and see what response it gets you, and give us a rest.
