The SDR's Annual Rails and Ales event will take place over the four days of the August Bank Holiday weekend.

The festival is at Staverton with over 50 ales and ciders on offer, together with a PIMMS tent. The festival is run by the Devon Diesel Society and proceeds from it are going towards the ongoing restoration of D402. The fetsival is housed in one of the former goods sheds at Staverton which during the past 8 months has been fully converted by the DDS into a new waiting room / bar and this event sees its official opening following completion. D2246 and 6737 are expecetd to be on display in the station yard.

A frequent train service operates on all four days with late trains on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Class 20 D8110 will work a single trip in the evening on Friday, four round trips during the day on Saturday, three round trips during the day on Sunday, and a single trip in the late afternoon on Monday. Bubblecar W55000 is also out on all four days, and for those who enjoy steam 1369 and 3205 will share duties on the main set with visiting 64xx 6430 working auto trains on each day.

On Saturday the SDR are running, in conjunction with FGW, a special service from Exeter St Davids (17.05) direct to Staverton. The service will call at Dawlish, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot, and special fares apply and are only available from the SDR (from the end of this week). After delivering passengers to the festival the 150/2 will work Staverton to Buckfastleigh and return, before departing back to Exeter at 21.40 calling at the same stations as the outward trip.

More details of the event will be posted on the DDS and SDR websites by the weekend.
