Missing im missing something, but I have to question the logic in sending the train out as originally planned when all the availible info points/pointed to the line not being clear in time, looks currently like it's either been caped at Yeovil or gone off on a magical mystery tour along the LSWR.

The plan was to terminate at Yeovil if the Yeovil-Dorchester line was not yet reopened. Seems like good logic to me! Incidentally I believe the LSWR route is closed both east and west of Yeovil Jc.

Correction: LSWR Yeovil Jc-Salisbury route reopened this morning.

''I can confirm that 34067 Tangmere will terminate at Yeovil Junction due to flooding.''

So presumably the punters will enjoy an afternoon at Salisbury whilst the loco is turned and serviced. <BJ>

Strange thing to do in my opinion, Yeovil is hardley an acceptable substitute for Weymouth, appears the plan has changed again though if she's set off eastwards as reported.

You'll have to guess im afraid, when a train goes off route like this, there are no timings as such and it goes when there's a gap.

NR and railtour promoters get a fair bit of flak at times but looks like praise is due today for giving the passengers a full day out in difficult circumstances.

Tangmere will need turning at Salisbury I think, which could give the passengers some time in the city.I would think Salisbury would make a suitable substitute for Weymouth.Historic city instead of the seaside!!

Salisbury's certainly a better destination than Yeovil, that's for sure.

Was there much else they could have done? Contacting all 300 - 400 passengers late Saturday/early Sunday would have extremely difficult. The only way to get in touch with them all was to run the train and pick up from the advertised stations at more or less the expected time.

Fair point, hard to see a way out of the situation with a positive outcome, though it appears once may of happened if Salisbury has become availible.

Well done to all those involved who have coped as events have developed.

1425 passing Templecombe would give an arrival of about 1545 at Salisbury.
Stock to East CS, loco turned via Laverstock Jns, back to Salisbury 1630.
Plenty of time to service and water and depart 1900/1930.

Departing Salisbury about 1930 would follow 1824 PHbr - Cardiff at 1924 and precede 1815 Waterloo - Exeter/Bristol TM 1955 ex Salisbury, 2023 ex Westbury. Then steam forward in booked timings at 2025.

Don't take this as gospel, it's a guess sat at a computer without access to TSDB.

    Cheers, Neil

OK, that will be approx 1520 at Salisbury. Looks like they got a clear path on the WOE.

    Cheers, Neil
