Well possibly, but it would not look or sound as good as 2807 in my view! Just seeing 2807 at work is a lifetime's ambition achieved for me, now what about seeing a "Patriot" again? Soon!

Not sure an Ivatt would take 12 over the West Somerset as 3850 has done....

For lines that require big power output for steep grades and heavy (by preservation standards) trains, these loco's are ideal, i suppose it's no coincidence the Churnet Valley have a S160 fetish with the Cauldon Lowe line.

How many did 3822 take over the WSR in 1992? 19?

Well put it this way, I would put good money on 2857 being able to handle any service train you care to throw behind it on any of the preserved lines in the country. I think it proved itself with the Newport experiment way back when in '85.

No bias from me, of course! :)

    Cheers,

Not sure a 28xx would go down well at Swanage, certian members of the loco department don't like 6695 let alone anything else GWR!!!!

A 28XX would go down well among others though. 7802 won a lot fans!

All I know is that the Manor near enough deafened me when we piloted it with 6695...the only thing that stopped it deafening me was that '95 beat it to it!

Having been with Bgammers and 2807 at the KWVR I can only say that we recieved many kind words from a staunch midland/LNWR railway. Some of the old hands still driving were very complmentry about how little fuss you could get away with if you so wanted. The main problem was not over firing before leaving Keighley. Also, as some of the steam raisers found to there upset, the old girl comes round very quickly. i think we were blowing off at 7am on the saturday! 28/38xx's are ideal preserved line loco's as they will settle down quite happily at 25mph. Visually prefer a 28 but prefer the (slightly) more ergonomical 38 cab. Anyone who has driven a 28 will confess to having had the bruised right knee from the lever reverse quadrant!

Yes, then a year or 2 later I think it was 23 or 24 on the East Lancs.

I don't even like the GW and I like 28xx's. Good honest beasts. And we don't have any O2's to play with. But sadly my euromillions haven't come through yet or I'd 'ave one.

No doubt all will be revealed in due time. In view of how many engines are still up for sale and looking for new homes (4588,4121,7760,6619,2859,34073) It's good news to hear of another engine which has a better future in front of it. No dount the proceeds from the sale will help return 4110 to steam among other things.

This is most pleasing news. [wibble]Words like 'consortium' and 'going to Tyseley' make it sound like its fallen into the hands of people who will pay for a quality job and want to see it done in a shorter timescale, which is very pleasing, as it may mean that she'll be up and about before long.[/wibble]

Of course, we're all going to want to know where she'll be going, but that's their news for release at their time - until the overhaul is done it's fairly immaterial after all. Personally, I'd like to see her on the SVR. Then again, I'd like to see most engines on the SVR :D
