It should be noted that there are currently snags on the MML due to OHL down near Harlington. Just been told that only two lines are in use. Slow progress heading north, can't speak for southbound traffic yet.

Re post 144, now amended to Harpenden. Very slow running northwards through St Albans towards Luton. Not seen anything come south for a while.

Thanks Alastair for the positive feedback its much appreciated, it was well worth the 3 hour wait to witness Bittern on the climb.

What a great 8 days this was overall. Superb weather (after it warmed up!) good loco performance generally plus some notable 'firsts'. It was all very well organised and the only problems were those that Network Rail chose to force on us (Edinburgh to Carlisle) and those that were beyond their control (Midland Main Line closures). But even these issues resulted in unexpected bonuses like going over the top of Sharnbrook rather than through it and those wonderful low sun and sunset scenes on the S & C. All credit to SD and also the DBS crews who really worked hard to make it memorable. Those who had the 'short straw' in my view - (Bob Hart, Brian Grierson and Keith Murfin) - because of the almost continuous rostering in Scotland, deserve a particular mention. Smiling in the face of adversity comes to mind!
