Just seen on the BBC East Midlands evening news, footage of a badly burnt wooden coach (stated as a Pullman by the TV voiceover). Images of coach before arson attack and after. It would appear from the TV report that the coach was overall blue (similar to LNER Garter Blue in colour) and has now been totally gutted. I guess this gives even stronger argument for secure covered accommodation for our valuable coaching stock on heritage railways. My apologies if this has been posted eleswhere on the forum but couldn't find another reference.

Was it this one? Pullman MR 1-4 Clerestory Third Baggage (grounded body) built 1874

Terrible shame if it was, one of the very earliest Pullmans left - manufactured in the USA then assembled in Derby, and it was the best of the three they have there, I think. Rated 'Exceptionally Important' on the above website.

Oh dear, as soon as I read the title I feared it might be this one. "Kinghambranch"s' description seems to match the Heritage Carriage Survey photo. Is there anything that can be salvaged, or is it as good as gone?

Guard_Jamie, thanks, I believe, from the images shown on TV, that it was the 2nd example, MR 5-8, which appeared to be in a worse condition, that was the target of the arson attack.

It was indeed MR 5-8 which was targetted.
Part of the Garden Railway building was also externally damnaged along with a road trailer which was next to the coach body.

And also harsher punishment for people who commit these crimes, one way I think should be is to make them work for the railway and restore another coach.
