Great recording David but you might want to change your description from GWR Castle to King!

I made my way to Ealing on Thursday to join the train just for the unique run of a King into Euston, for which I was only charged a fiver. I wondered at the time whether I should make a more generous donation, and having read on here how much was collected for HfH I reckon I'd better send a few more quid in. With the usual mass of bodies round the engine when we arrived it wasn't possible to take any very good pictures, but I'll see about posting one or two either here or on Flickr. I'm still amazed that a King was allowed to run into Euston. Did they do a very hush-hush gauging test beforehand, or didn't they worry about it?

A very enjoyable trip despite delay due to signalling outward and the late departure on the return. Thanks to Steam Dreams, DBS and the 6024 Support crew.

Outward - The Highlight was Horfield/Filton Bank with a load of 13.

Return - A decent run all the way from Cardiff - Reading ( where I left to may sure I did not miss my last train)
We left Cardiff 50 minutes late and arrived at Gloucester 30 minutes late. Left Gloucester 37 min down. Despite being in the 11 of 13 coaches we could here the loco while climbing Sapperton ( The heaviest load of the 3 trips I have had with the King up this bank). 49 min down at Kemble and 54 min down on departure from Wantage Road. Left Reading 48 minutes down as I left on an HST.

A couple of photos taken at Cardiff, one of arrival, and the other bringing the stock in just before the light went can be found at Zenfolio | Paul Simpson | Cathedrals Express to Cardiff

    Evening

Finally managed to get the average speeds done, hectic week of nights prevailed. Anyway hopefully they should work out. I've used a couple of sources for the mileages as the brochure / previous Past Time route guides don't match up with route diagrams and annoyingly my route diagrams of the Western only go up to Bathampton Junction!

Anyway I've checked the attached document with Kaspersky Pure 9.1.0.124 and there are no virus's attached.

Feel free to comment if you so wish, as it was my first time and found it enjoyable.

    Regards

    James

Gauging doesnt need physical test runs, its all done with computer modelling these days.
