    Scrap that, just been given this response. Hope it helps;

    The 6880 website has two ways to obtain the SSS3 leaflet which has the booking form as part of it.
    The first way is to send an SAE to David Huntbatch who will then post it out.
    The second way is to click the link on the website which requests the pdf version. Doing it this way the recipient can print it themselves, including the booking form.

    6880 Website below:
    Home | Betton 6880

    Hope this helps.

    Got me thinking why have they put mega gala's on for a project to built what really is a humble mixed traffic engine? Not moaning because the two previous galas, escpecially the last one, were great galas and I'm sure this will be too

    It was more than just a humble mixed traffic engine !!

    The GWR Grange Class became a favourite of footplate crews and earned the reputation of being 'The Engineman's Engine'

    Why not? Much like any other (ethical!) fund-raising scheme - if it works, do it!

    Because it is the better of 2 fund raising options; (a) depend on a regular income from the group members / supporters plus the uncertain donations or (b) risk a big event where costs are high, break-even point is higher but the profit per visitor once break-even point is reached is higher still. If running an event as part of option (b) it can also be organised to include other profitable ventures such as Beer / Ale but it is a high risk option with need to monitor costs closely before the event and allocate funds carefully after the event.

    The first 2 events succeeded in their aim - will it be 3rd time lucky ?

    Certainly raised a lot of money for a good cause. I was also forgetting that they are building a 'extinct' class so it's all good. Maybe other groups could cotton to this maybe? Also during the Saturday of the East Lancs gala someone was on the trains handing out leaflets for the event, certainly has wetted the appatite

    That would have been me then, I only had a handfull of them, and had to make a quick dash through the train, so didn't get much chance to speak to anyone.

    Just reading through bits of old thread from SSS2. The postings and info made available, along with the interaction of forum members is quite a contrast to this current thread. I don't know, maybe it's me, just seems lacking in that "buzz" factor that the other two SSS galas had.

    Formats only have a certain life shelf and need constant re-invention or tweaking of themes. What is the theme of SSS3? Is getting a large selection of engines at Llangollen enough? Successful galas always have something new to look at or a theme to sell.

    You assume correct, going to enjoy this. Not sure what I am doing yet, but we may be in the Thompson Buffet again. We hope anyway, both Ally and the dog will be along too.
