    B1 (6)1306

Just received the latest SR & there is an article stating that 61306 in going to be main line certified. It is to carry Apple green livery but with "British Railways" lettering on the tender & carry the number 61306. Air brakes are not going to be fitted although of course it will require the usual TPWS/OTMR gubbins. There is also mention that it will run under a new steam loco operator on the main line, a company called Devon & Cornwall Railways (DCR). A subsidiary of British American Railway Services.

Interesting stuff if it all comes to fruition. Will add a bit of extra colour to the main line scene. My one and only bit of B1 main line haulage in the preservation era was behind 1306 way back in 1976 so high time for another run.

Reading it makes it sound like Mr Boden is the most competent steam driver ever! Wish I was that good. JOKE! ;)

I've seen a DCR liveried Class 31 floating around on NR test trains. Wonder how big a fleet they've got.

WCRC or DB Schenker as the others are maybe. Anyway hope its true. Nice to know she may become 61306 and the BR Apple Green liviery.

Don't assume WCR steam drivers will be driving for D&CR!

    Re: B1 (6)1306

Ha yeah, that won't be happening! This seems a bit odd really. Great to see it out on the mainline, but with seemly only one driver? Or does DCR have any plans to get more people trained or indeed do they have any intention whatsoever of getting a passenger safety case for steam?

If not then will WCR be the operator for these 15-20 trips?

Is it like that on preserved railways? I don't want or wish to sound rude by the way, but does anyone else get to fire or drive it apart from the support crew?
It looks a nice engine to go on....I like B1s anyway!

    Re: B1 (6)1306

I too had one main line run behind 1306 in 1976 - good to see her returning to main line operations.

Now, how about an 'apple green' event at some point? (runs & hides)

Is the owner a mainline steam driver or a 'normal' driver?

    Re: B1 (6)1306

AFAIK only the Boden family and the support crew got to drive 1306 but I stand to be corrected on this.

    Re: B1 (6)1306

The guys do only request a Pilotman to provide route knowledge, as was the case for SSS2.

They are a great bunch though, and the pink feather duster incident has gone down in legend! Was one of the highlights of that gala for me lol

    Re: B1 (6)1306

I believe that DCR have certified a small number of drivers themselves. There are certainly people involved that are more than capable of putting the required systems in place.

I have no idea if Mr Boden was already a mainline driver, but I'd suggest that the ability to function in such an environment is more of a pre - requisite than previous steam knowledge.

He is, or rather was, a driver for EWS at one time.
