    Thanks for the photos, the missus and I visited last Thursday for the first time and the ride up the mountain along with the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. I've put my welsh steam photos from last week, including the Snowdon piccies, in the Photography thread.

    Looking at the photos they seemed to be running more steam loco's than diesel. A good few years back it seemed to be the other way around and I got put off going as the chances of getting a trip in front of? a steam loco seemed remote

    To be honest, when we visited last week I thought it was completely random between steam and diesel. Three trains before ours was steam, and one diesel, then our trip was steam. When we came back down we passed two diesels and one steam hauled train. I guess it's literally just pot-luck if you want to get a steam hauled journey as there doesn't seem to be any set order between steam and diesel power.

    Since the railway is selling the view and access it appears that the traction is a secondary consideration. During my visit on July 13 steam locos 2;3;4; and diesels 9;10;11;12 were in use but the trainsets were changed over as only about 5 were operating on the climb at any time.
