Can anyone elighten me to what the plans are for Tyne Yard. This is a huge yard with alot of potential. It is currently home to EWS on route from south Newcastle to Carlisle / north Newcastle but that is it.

There was once even 5 or 6 class 37's stored here which never moved for a long time and now all of a suddne all have gone bar one which has moved locations in the yard.

    Track has been ripped up.

There is a a huge depot here and it offers alot of things for locos.

Steam trips through Newcastle, always stop here or in the surrounding area.

Can anyone provide any information as to the plans for this yard?

Dont quote me on it but i'd heard they (DB SCHENKER) were considering selling a lot of disused railway land (not just tyne yard) that thay no longer have any use for. They have sold a lot of surplus/disused loco's for scrap and the yards and sidings they were sat on are having the rails cleared and the land sold for housing/industrial use etc. Its big business out there and every penny from whatever source is important and if they are not going to use the land again they may as well maximise their profits from it. like i said i only heard this second hand so it may not be true.

Is it their land to sell.
I thought it may have been BR Property board in some form or another, just leasing to the various operators.

The WRD used to be EWS Axiom Rail (or similar), I think that was bought by LNWR.

I am sure somebody will provide correct details.

Only 37427 (loco wise) to remove now.
