The spare boiler - and the second tender, come to that - are both owned by Jeremy Hosking now. The spare cylinders are no longer spare I think - Anthony Coulls will correct if wrong I suspect, but I think they are actually now fitted to Scotsman with the "originals" no longer fit for purpose.

Are there spare A3 wheels about? Did not know about that one.

The Bloomer is a terrific project and you've reminded me to get on and make that cheque to the cause. I'd love to see that steam one day, pre-grouping locomotives having a certain elegance and panache to them as they do. :)

Complete with booster? Now that really would be novel!

Apologies to the Bloomer, of course it *ought* to be next. What it really needs is for an appropriate railway with some suitable Victorian rolling stock to give it a home and some TLC. Maybe Tyseley needs to find a working partner where this lovely loco could stretch its dainty legs.

32424 is according to an article in the new Steam Railway by a member of the Atlantic Project says that a projected date for the loco is 2016.

Another missing from the list is the B17 Project where 2 were to be built one as Sandringham and one named after a football club. Whats happening with that I remember a cab was built but then didn't it get damaged and I think a member of the boad died IIRC. I happy to be corrected though.

Somehow the word "sucker" doesn't sit well with cylinders and pistons..... after all we are using something slightly higher than atmospheric pressure these days!

A couple of months ago I was PM'd by the Hengist society, and asked for a copy of a photo of 72008 which I had uploaded to this thread. I duly obliged, together with a couple of photos of the loco at Tyseley. I have yet to receive any thanks, or even an acknowledgement. My conclusion is that the society is as efficient as the locos were known to be, ie not very!

    Subsequently rectified. Thank you!

Hi SNG, I remember it well, I never received anything from you. They must have gone into the ether somewhere. Perhaps I should have PM'd you again and asked about them but I couldn't be sure you sent them. Be assured, anything anyone does for this project under my watch will get an acknowledgement, as long as I know about it. I hope the fact that I have answered your message as soon as I've seen it gives some idea of my efficiency.
As for the engine, well when it is built we will see about how efficient it is, compared with 'Tornado', the only other new Pacific.
I'll PM my email address to you again if you would be willing to share the photos still!

Now the thread is back on the topic of Hengist perhaps we could have an engineering/membership/fundraising update please.

Thanks for the intrest Lingus... Just in case Northern steam is away i will try and give you some answers
Since the retirement of the chairman the managing council have been very busy establishing where exactly the project is in terms of the myriad of finished parts and works in progress and considering a home at which to consolidate them and erect the frames. Options are available to the project.
The project has no debt and a small but steady income.
It is felt that too many appeals are concurrent and a focus on finishing these off one by one is anticipated. It is hoped that an incremental but tangible progress will inspire more interest, confidence in and therefore support for the project...

An opportunity for new as well as existing members and supporters to really make a contribution, not just in terms of cash, but in knowledge and direction exists in the lead up to the next AGM in september. Intrest is good , but being part of the thing thats interesting is really good...

    Thanks for the update class8mikado.
It's good to hear that the project is not in debt and is taking the viewpoint that it is best to conclude the existing appeals before starting new ones. It is better to consolidate in the current climate and not to try to do too much resulting in overstretching resources and potentially placing the project at risk for short-term gains. This approach, as you say, will inspire more confidence in the project (not that I am aware of any lack of confidence) and the people running it. I look forward to hearing the outcome of where the loco will be assembled. Good luck to you all !

I think we all cant wait to see this project move forwards, and have a new home. Wish it could be at Llangollen. where the gw railmotor was. Then we could have three newbuilds all lined up together. And show off Llangollens quality of work.

If it wasn't for an apparent lack of space, I would suggest the Mid-Hants Railway. Though there may be Eastleigh to consider as a base?

GCR would be very nice indeed, but like the other two they are very busy shops with a constant flow of locomotives going in and out needed for traffic.
For the time being as progress is slow and steady the project needs space that isnt under two much pressure, and even then ideally as an assembled 'frame on wheels' so the loco is easier to accomodate/ move about.

Peak Rail have a nice new shed pretty well unencumbered by loco's, and they are now connected to the big railway too.

............... and if the same management is in place when it is finished they'll probably want to kick it out, so you'll be fee to run it elsewhere!
