No reports about this train so far. Just to say that Nunney Castle departed Bristol TM on time at 08:51 with the Weymouth 'Sunny? Seaside Express' passing Tornado at Bristol East depot waiting to enter Bristol TM with the Torbay Express. The Weymouth Seaside Express departs from platform 5/6 and then the Torbay Express enters the same platform soon afterwards.

One of the passengers to Weymouth today was David Randles. Enjoy your day David. <BJ>

Surprised so little coverage, so far but I suppose weather was poor! Footage this morning from Bath, Dundas, Westbury and near Witham. Shot at Dundas is particularly good (sorry the title is in the wrong place):

Looked good coming out of Weymouth but with the amount of clag as at backed down into station was the coal perhaps less than desirable?

Excellent trip, definitely one of the best railtours we've been on. After a few pints in Weymouth we got a bit creative with a Weatherspoons menu though, hope you like it ;)

I suppose the weather put people off but surprised how little coverage of the trip has had. Return working seen climbing towardsd Brewham summit (sound up the valley was amazing, even in the rain), Frome and Limpley Stoke:

Start out of Frome was very noisey.

Thanks to all and especially our friend on the train who kept us updated!

I suspect weather put a lot off as well as competing attractions . There are only so many of us ! I think as well 5029 is perhaps not a glamour loco being a little overshadowed by its Tyseley stablemate 5043 . I know Ben is doing his best to change that . I'm hoping she is on the 31st July trip , but I suspect my luck may be out

I understand from talking to one of the stewards on sunday that 31st July is Tangmere.

As regards last sundays run I paid on the day. There was plenty of space at BTM but by the time it left Frome I'd say that most sets of 4 seats were occupied. Load was 8 including the support coach.

As regards the run going down there was quite a bit of hanging around with lengthy stops at Westbury, Frome, Pen Mill and Dorchester - but we still arrived on time.

The climb to Bincombe, as with Evershot on way down, was a slog. After Upway station the speed dropped away rapidly and on the last 2 miles and especially the stretch up to the tunnel it seemed like walking pace. Front window behind the engine was deafening and so much exhaust that you didn't know whether you were in the tunnel or not. We were probably 5 mins late by the time we got to Dorchester.
As regards Cary to Brewham by then it was raining, very grim light, filthy exhaust and with my head out the window utterly marvellous. The grade was having its effect near the summit but 5029 was still romping along and down the other side, as with the final dash Bath to BTM we were doing 12 seconds for the quarter mile.
Only the normal fathing about outside BTM prevented an on time arrival.
    Good day out.

Think we were near 8mph on the approach to Bincombe Box Tunnel. The slip just before Bincombe Tunnel did us no favours and she soon lost her momentum. However she did make it, and the noise was epic! The climb of Evershot Northbound was a lot more comfortable for her, though still made her work. Once the rain started though we retreated to our seats n sent the rest of the journey entertaining our fellow passengers. We even met Mario and Luigi at Bath!

At £55 this trip is well worth the money, the only complaint being really that come 4pm Weymouth seemed to shut and the only places open were the bars (not that we complained too much) so with a 6pm departure there was roughly 2hrs where there wasn't much to do. However, not something RYTC can do anything about, and wont stop me recommending this trip to everyone. Especially if a Castle's rostered...

An excellent four page RTC supplement has been added to the Bristol Observer newspaper this week. Detailed information is given about
the Weymouth Seaside Express and the Pembroke Coast Express that runs later in the season. Three very nice photographs are shown.

    An excellent advertisement indeed. <BJ>

A few minutes late and slightly laboured acceleration up the Avon valley this morning.
