    Seem to remember reading somewhere that cyanide was quite a favourite for such processes.

    OMG! Are you serious? The building is essentially a long tube which appears to be sealed/pressurised, I wonder how the process worked...

    It depends what you destroy the vacuum with. If you use a gas mixture, this will get everywhere very quickly. Something like camphor, etc.
