Being dumb here, but what was the steam blowing out the front, not the drain cocks was it? and why was it on all the time (well, on in all the clips anyway?)

One drain cock stuck open, very often a bit of metal jamming it, not unknown for it to be a fragment of piston ring....

6024 had her drain cocks blowing at Didcot on 23rd April, as shown here:

On a Stanier loco, by all accounts all it needed to fix it was a whack with a heavy spanner, but I guess Swindon locos were built of sterner stuff!

(And agreed, lovely video and great quality sound Lewis, better without 6024 wheezing like that but you can't have it all!)

A very enjoyable trip, good run on the outward and the return. Thanks to Stream Dreams , West Coast and the support crew.

Ray Churchill driving out and back. Graeme Bunker firing outward. No sure of the fireman on the return Dean Morris?

A little belated but here are two shots of 6024 running through Church Stretton, accelerating away on favourable gradients through the station after cresting the summit from Marshbrook and then working hard up the grade on the return. Quite a few people got 'bowled' by the (very) late running Heart of Wales service in platform 1, she sounded awesome going through at a good 40 - 50 mph, excellent with that load. An added bonus was that it was Church Stretton's festival with some nice vintage vehicles, Steam Rollers and Traction engines pottering about.
Incidently Arriva turned around the Heart of Wales unit quick at Shrewsbury, it was back at Chrurch Stretton just 40mins later to take us home!

Nice Pics Alan (of my old stamping grounds)!.
Looks like 'she' had a mixed run from Shrewsbury up to Stretton. Austin's video (Post #127) appears to show the train accelerating from not much more than walking pace only to shut off as it goes under the B4370 bridge north of All Stretton and yet "she sounded awesome going through (Church Stretton)at a good 40 - 50 mph" Must have accelerated well in the couple of miles of climbing from All Stretton.

6024 is subject to a 5 mph speed restriction going southbound under the B4370 bridge north of All Stretton. There are also speed restrictions for bridges in the Bayston Hill area.

Thanks Paul for you kind comments They were only record shots on my now 7 year old compact digital camera, but I was certainly pleased with the result despite the poor light on the return. Despite her modifications 6024 does seem to still have a fair few restrictions wherever she goes. One reason for her rapid acceleration could be the presence of a certain Ray Churchill on the footplate! Certainly she seemed in complete control of her load last weekend and was a ray of light in an otherwise poor weekend for steam.

Ah ha, Midland Red, that would explain the slowing and Alan, Ray Churchill's presence would probably explain the acceleration! I would have loved to have heard 'her' climbing past Dudgely Mill and under Farm Lane bridge!
