I'm suddenly footloose and fancy free on Saturday (14th May) and like the look of this event, especially the chance to get photographed in a full size replica Spitfire! You guys always put on a good show.

As the K&ESR is quite a distance away, I'd be grateful for any info about the likely locos for the event, before I make my final decision. Thanks!

    Hi,
I can't say for certain and I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but I believe that it will be 65, 1638 & either the P, Charwelton or a Terrier as the third loco.
I'm quite looking forward to Saturday, I'm one of the guards and I'm sure I'll end up helping the policeman chase Viv the Spiv through the train!

65 & 1638 are certainly running, the 'Big Plan' shows 32670 as the third loco but no guarantee!

Austerities are quite a nostalgia item for me - it's a fair bet that if the Colonel Stephens empire had continued, and he had discovered the elixir of long life, he'd have bought a job lot of them off the NCB. They look right on the K&ESR, although my greatest affection was for the Norwegian mogul.

He probably would although I think they in turn would have now been replaced by a fleet of thumpers off the Ashford-Hastings route :)

Yes, he was not shy of the internal combustion engine with his Shefflex railcars, but how would he have dealt with powering mixed trains - a prominent feature of the Colonel Stephens lines? All sorts of possibilities of course; maybe multi-purpose railcars such as were used on Northern Ireland Railways in the 60s.

I look forward to an "All Bucket" gala occurring some day. Just imagine the possibilities - authentic J94 buckets; fake J94 buckets; authentic industrial buckets; GPCS buckets; Geisl buckets; Army buckets; Netherlands buckets; inauthentic faux-liveried buckets; rebuilt 'Thomas' buckets; Iron Duke replica (built out of recycled buckets); fire buckets etc. What a day!

Norwegian may (just may) be back in service next year. A major overhaul of the frames and axleboxes, to correct long term misalignment problems from the days when she was a snow plough, is nearly complete and the boiler is due a hydraulic test very shortly.

Although I try to avoid the Austerities at K&ESR, Isle of Wight etc, I recognize their massive contribution to so many lines, and would be minded to attend such a gala at an appropriate ex industrial line! This sounds like a great idea!

So, what we're saying here then is that you want Buckets on a bucket & spade train....

    Ok, getting coat!

OK, tell you what, how about we export the three remaining buckets plus the 2 at selinge back to North yorks and in return we get something that is usefull , can haul a 5 coach rake without needing to coal up during the day and suitible for running to robertsbridge when we get there, something like a black 5 or wd 2.10.0 or s160
