D2178 + 14901 in action over Easter Weekend

    Hi all -

For those that are interested, 14901 (D9524) will top and tail passenger trains at the Gwili Railway this weekend (22nd-25th April) for a DOWT event.

There will be no parking at Bronwydd Arms for this event. Instead, follow the AA signs to the temporary platform at Cwmdwyfran Halt, where trains depart at 1030, 1120, 1210, 1300, 1350, 1440, 1530 and 1620 for Llwyfan Cerrig. Jinty No.47298 will be on the North end of these trains.

UPDATE (Saturday 23rd, 2200hrs): D2178 will also be in action, vice Haulwen. Details in post further down thread...

An adult ticket (valid on all services) is £11. Further details on the railway's website... http://www.gwili-railway.co.uk.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

How did this loco become 14901 please? Has it received major modfications the other preserved class 14s haven't?

The good news first- 14901 out on Thomas duty today and looked and sounded the business- you can still catch it running over the next 3 days, as long as you don't mind some Thomas music....

The bad news- Haulwen has failed - probably for the season- what this is going to mean we are not sure yet, but it will probably mean more Cl 14 haulage over the season. Jennifer will be arriving soon to provide some welcome relief.

14901 certainly worked well yesterday, sounded quite good aswell in all honesty, could be heard from the footplate of the jinty aswell at times. Did you get any pictures yesterday?

No but I expect the flickr site will have some on soon as Rob was out with his camera. No doubt there will some Youtube footage appearing over the next few days. Yesterday was good fun!

As posted on PresGen & PLEG...

Two shunters for the price of one! Times and fares are still as per the original post,at the top of the thread - albeit with a few 'extras' and ECS's flying about too...

    Cheers,

    Phil.

Not long got back from a very successful day. The event seemed busy, but well managed. All locos performed well, D9524 makes a very different noise to her classmates! Phil Guard doing a grand job was loading and unloading the hordes to get trains away, and all the staff I saw seemed happy and friendly (probably under instructions!). My 3yo thoroughly enjoyed herself, and unsurprisingly slept most of the way home.
