Oh! Wow! What a superb machine! Having only ever seen them in grainy old black & white photos, it does the heart and soul good to see (and hear) one in action. Roll on the day when the GWSR gets to Broadway and No.93 is simmering away in the sunshine! Back to the glory days!!

Wonderful. I never imagined that it would sound so 'masculine'. Perhaps this might nudge whoever is concerned to get that SMU up and running.

Absolutely agree! Huge respect for Dennis Howells & all the Didcot team for the vision & the will to make this happen. Love the crimson lake & the gold lining out as well.
Could equally simmer away in the sunshine at Crowcombe!!

I think you're going to have to take second place here, Black Jim! The (now) GWSR has photgraphic evidence of Railmotor's being used at Broadway. How's about the WSR and Crowcombe?

    Is this close enough? :)

No. 93 was initially allocated to Southall shed and from then on spent time at many other depots including Bristol, Croes Newydd, Chalford, Gloucester, Stourbridge, Taunton and Yatton.

OK, OK! I give in! But I still think Broadway - Honeybourne takes pride of place for any Railmotor (and I suppose 93 will just have to do....(sigh....)!

Pity its not really practical to fit it out for mainline running, because I would dearly love to see this run through the Stroud Valley at least one more time. Though running to Chalford to change ends might be a problem.....

Superb achievement - well done GWS, she looks a treat. I'll definately be making a trip to Didcot to see this beauty in action later in the year.

At least one Railmotor made an appearance on the Wallingford branch, but only briefly for a test as far I we're aware.

I don't know why but I hadn't anticipated it making such a deep noise as that. Its certainly going to be quite an attraction on its travels

Driver training at Didcot yesterday in preperation for the launch.
I've only ever worked auto as a fireman before, but now as a driver, this is a beautiful and unique vehicle to drive. When the safety valve blows, GOD IT'S LOUD as its in the driving compartment!!
That aside, the finnish is stunning, right down to the period pictures on the inside, the upholstry and even the specially woven fabric of the blinds. They've even made sure the screw heads line up! Definately one to see for not only the photographers, but for the historians as a snapshot of a class vehicles that only had a lifespan from around the early 1900's to 1935.

Launch day 28th May and over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, with other more modern visiting counterparts. More details here http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/news/latest.html#news02 and here http://www.didcotrailwaycentre.org.uk/events/loco_roster.html
As there has already been several photo's in various magazines, Here's another teaser...

Put in a nursing home? Sectioned? Regarded as a simpleton for the rest of his (let's be honest) life?
