Bolton Abbey is a very beautiful setting particularly if there are not a lot of people around. A very reflective place.........

It wasn't very peaceful or reflective when I took a convoy of 20 Citroen 2CVs there many years ago!

I believe the immediate plans are obviously Norman now running and then focus will be on finishing and entry into service of Beatrice giving us 2 very good and hopefully reliable engines.

The others still require quite a bit of work and Illingworth has of course taken a major step backwards.

    Cheers,

The Mixed Traction weekend does have the go-ahead - we're working on the timetables at the moment...

The exact details won't be published just yet as there are two distinct, separate options for it, depending on how work progresses with Beatrice...

However, I hope to have some details up in the next few days!

Easy! One of the Bolton Abbey staff also had a 2CV at the time, so was very happy for us to come. Some of the older drum-braked cars had an interesting time following my "scenic" route from Embsay, which was a bit hilly in places. :scared:

I,ll bet..........................it,s a bit worrying when you start to smell brakes starting to go off.........remarkable car though, always secretly admired it from a functional point of view.

    Hi Tim

Any more news on the weekend yet?

How are the locos / fares / roster looking?

    Looking forward to it.

    Best Regards

    Andrew

Fares look like being v. modest. trains look like being every 30 minutes from Embsay and Bolton Abbey. Locos look like being Norman, D.5600, 37294 with the possibility of the Class 14 as well / instead of one of the other diesels.

Hair has been pulled out as Beatrice is still not ready. 5643 had the work completed and it went off to Llangollen in time (we were secretly hoping it would run over and we'd have it for the w/e, but sadly not!)

More when I've bought a wig!

Sounds good; best of luck with about 3 weeks to go you manage to pull Beatrice out of the hat.

With Norman in traffic, and 6619 also available (and running on the dates posted on the website), attention has once again turned to Beatrice which saw the cylinder and valve chest covers fitted, the tank receive a couple of coats of paint and a few other jobs completed last weekend.

A start could be made to running in shortly, but as this has been incredibly protracted so far, I wouldn't get your hopes up too much!

Illingworth's boiler is moving on, with the firebox (outer) rivetted back together, and the tubeplate reattached to the barrel, again rivetted. A small section of the front section of the barrel has been replaced.

The boiler inspector has quite reasonably said that anything done by the previous contractor must be replaced, and this is now moving on well.

The inner firebox is away having the new girder stays made / fitted as the threads are shot. This was initially the main problem necessitating the firebox be removed.

The rest of the loco is almost complete mechanically, the new cab will be tweaked once the boiler is in the frames.

Annie is making progress. The axleboxes and horns have been test fitted, new crankpins are being made.

    22's boiler is making progress.

Primrose's wheels are being painted. I'm not sure where we stand with the axleboxes - they were supposed to go away before Easter for rectification works, but I don't know if they did or not.

Attention may then move to Monckton...

Thanks very the detailed update Tim............things are looking very good for the future, still hope you can throw a steam gala together before the year is out with a fair wind etc.

Best of luck to all involved with the projects.

Norman and 6619 have been handing the services well, which have been well patronised so far!

Beatrice finally nears completion, with a cold boiler inspection planned for Monday the 8th of August. All being well, a steam test and running-in will follow.

Illingworth's boiler components have been rivetted back together, and it now awaits the inner firebox being returned, along with the new girder stays. Annie is also progressing nicely: the frames have been painted and the wheels have had the crankpins bored out ready for replacement.

Perhaps Tim can shed some more light on the above?

Will that 4 loco steam weekend happen this year?

    Hope so

    Best of luck

Don't have any more to add at the minute - I saw the boiler inspector yesterday, but did not find out what his verdict was! Will try again...

Manchester Ship Canal No.32 - gothenburg is rostered for the Vintage train this Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th.

It will be running with Gothenburg nameplates etc although will be in Thomas blue.

Interestingly it will be facing chimney first to Bolton Abbey so will add some different photo opportunites.

    Cheers,

    Smiler

Wouldn't that be the 13th + 14th seen as 32 was at the ELR this weekend? :)
