Excellent to hear. Any ideas as to when a repaint will take place? I do like the crimson, makes a change, but I will be more inclined to go and see her again when she's in black! LMS black for preference (a unique look, at the moment, as far as I am aware) but I doubt that will happen.

Before any lettering/numbers/emblems are applied it would be fun to put some SOUTHERN sunshine letters and numbers on the side! 1D1 I believe would be the Bulleid method?

I'd love to see that :)

    would it be 1D624 ? perhaps ?

April 1st is 49 days away...

Maybe it could become 1D11 (Apr 1st 2011 in Bulleid format ?)

Given our groups penchant for bucking the trend, you never know ! We did joke about doing a Southern livery with sunshine lettering at some point :)
Seriously though the Great Central are happy for her to be in red, but as they say, watch this space.

How about holding an auction to raise funds for further maintenance/the next overhaul... Highest bidder chooses the livery? ;-). £20 for NCB blue.

Or you could go for NCB North Yorks Area Maroon with yellow lining/black edging and save money on a repaint. It would need white wall tyres, though.

I'll raise you £50 for LMS black! Seriously, name the last OPERATIONAL engine to carry it, apart from TCDD 45160 at GW 175?

(4)5407 just prior to her purchase by Riley in the 1990's or was it (4)2968 before it's last overhaul about the same time

An embarassingly obvious one, Saggin' Dragon, can't believe I missed that!

However to clarify I was referring to unlined 30s livery, not the post-war Ivatt lined express black.

Well, HE 1697 is operational and carries LMS black as 7401 and has done for over twenty years. OK, it's a diesel but you simply said 'engine'!

Back to the Southern suggestion: sunshine lettering on black would look very good and could be a short-lived transition to LMS black. I love the 1D11 suggestion! If it doesn't happen for real, then someone who knows their way around Photoshop may be able to oblige (just for grins!)

8233 (ie 48773), 5407 Those were in the early 90's. The last though would be 2968 which wore that livery in the 90's during its first period in traffic until 1998.

Edit opps forgot about 6233 LOL!!!
