Biggest crowd of spectators at Shalford I've seen for a while, must have been 70/80 people there. 71000 arrived around 10 late, took a good 20 mins to water, only one hose in use and that was a bit leaky where it goes into the tender. They stopped when it had 4000 gal on(according to the guage).First attempt to start ended in a slip, then box gave a push and was under power as it departed. Following service train was delayed around 10 min,but as its a stopper, probably no more than that. Guard said box was at front due to NR's insistance and very poor adhesian conditions.

I saw the train at Woking and then at Shere, The Duke gave a good performance at both, lots of white smoke rather than the clag noted earlier, lots of whistling too. The 67 kept fairly quiet though I think it gave a bit of a shove as it left Woking Station. Huge crowds out for it. I'm just posting my video - but now I've gone HD it takes a lot longer to upload :)

On the left behind the whatever it is....
Just looking back at a couple of shots I have on the Duke, one 15 miles north of Crewe clagging well and another at Brock between Preston and Lancaster, still clagging... Whatever the reason someone needs to get a grip.

Well, at least the clag issue stops people moaning about the box inside!

Might be a deliberate tactic to try and hide it from view.......

Definitely looking a lot better there, than where I was.
(At clapham the incline up to Clapham Junction even makes Clan Line produce a decent bark, and by far the loudest was 70013, but today 71000 was just smoking like an american logburner and leaning back letting 67 doing it... I was thinking the worst !).

There was no doubt she was cleaned up for the part today.

My terrible picture from Albury is here...

I got abit lost and it took me a while to find the crossing (had a nice walk around the footpaths near the line!), it was dark when I got to the crossing and even darker when she came past. Sounded nice though and a location I will go back to when the sun is shining! Video to follow.

Thanks BMV. It looked a bit crowded on your side when I got there! (Late after a lot of hold-ups on the way down from after seeing the train at Woking, including Shere village centre being closed off completely by an accident! Very stressful......)

Still, that couple out walking their dog (you see them at the end of my clip) enjoyed the chat and enjoyed seeing the train. Apparently the chap had once ridden the real Orient Express to Venice (I think he said, maybe it was Vienna!)

A sequence of my shots from Chilworth here:http://steamtube.ning.com/photo/albums/71000-duke-of-gloucester-on Glad I changed to my 300 mm lense as the light got worse as 71000 approached and the usual crowd of late comers turned up and stood right in front of us. They then seemed to get temporary blindness and deafness when the guy standing next to me tried to get their attention!
71000 was working hard away from the water stop at Shalford as we could hear her for some time. Unfortunately she slipped just before the level crossing at the station and the regulator was kept shut through the station with the Class 67 taking the weight of the train. DOG was opened up again clear of the station and we could hear her working away towards Albury. Very poor track conditions yesterday so understandable that the 67 was assisting.
