I would have been tempted if it was to do as previous stated around Manchester but thought things would changed so luckily held off booking. Anyone know why they have changed the routing so late?

If you had got on at Romiley expecting to detrain at Stockport as it says in the blurb - it isn't going to happen.

I presume it is now Huddersfield, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge, Victoria - Bolton - Preston to avoid reversals or running round, so no Copy Pit or Sough as still being advertised on RTC publicity.

The ultra rare Victoria - Ashburys - Romiley has been promised before, but we got Ashton Moss, Denton, Stockport, Chinley.

Anyone know the route in detail ???

I'm booked on this one and driving from Devon for a few days in the north.
Where does it say the route from Manchester has changed?

There always seems to have been some question about which Manchester station this tour is using, When I first saw it on several months ago on the RTC website, I'm sure that it said that it was starting at Piccadilly and finishing at Stockport after passing through Picc again. This was what prompted me to book, but I did notice that the online booking only offered Victoria as a joining station, which caused me to hesitate, but I booked anyway because the rest of the tour was pretty good, irrespective of the start/finish point.

A couple of weeks ago, I looked at the website again and the words now said Victoria, but the online booking only offered Victoria (i.e. the opposite to what it said before, and still inconsistant).

Terminating at Stockport made sense when the tour was coming through Picc (as it would be very unlikely that the tour would be allowed to terminate at Picc), but seemed rather less likely if it was coming back through Vic, so I was half expecting a Victoria start and finish.

With the ECS coming from Carnforth and the two Black Fives being in Fort William until next week, I'm guessing that it will be steam-hauled from Preston, then Vic to Vic basically as advertised (except for the disappointing switch from Piccadilly), with the train returning diesel-hauled to Preston.

James S - can you confirm this?

Just got the tickets. Steam hauled from Preston to Manchester Victoria, Romiley, Sheffield, Manchester Victoria, then diesel hauled to Preston.

From the letter that came with the tickets...

I've now checked the printed brochure and that does indeed show Victoria as the start/finish station. As the letter suggests (backed up by what I was told by somebody), Victoria was the original plan, but it changed to Piccadilly due to engineering works, but these have been cancelled, so it's back to Victoria (unfortunately).

The brochure says Denton, Stockport etc, but the timings suggest Ashburys, Romiley - so we've actually got the rarer route, rather than the advertised one!

I am stewarding on this one and called earlier today to confirm start time etc. and was told, Preston 9.20 returning 19.20.

Ian Riley has posted today, "The Preston start and finish is indeed correct, however the return is still via Copy Pit, Sough and Man Vic" He also says that the timings are out and therefore on UK Steam soon..

So based on that, at the moment, I will be going to Preston...

The last one was 13 but the last 2 weren't in use for some reason.

Just booked, with the money I didnt spend on the Caledonian Tornado on Wednesday (cancelled). No danger of not enough bookings on this one, standard class is sold out, so I'm breaking the habit of a lifetime and paying an extra £30 for a table lamp and tea and pastries!!!

Went on the last one, with the pocket rocket and Lancashire Fusilier, and it was a damned good thrash.

One is likely to be the RTC staff coach/brake/barrier.

Letter with the tickets listed 9 coaches, so adding loco support, RTC support and kitchen makes 12?

Maybe an extra is tagged on when the train is full, and the motive power allows, so that 'pay on the day' can be accommodated??
