Interesting post on the very interesting Beamish Transport News - apparently the NER Y7 0-4-0T 6088 is 'ready to move to Beamish' - anyone have anything further than that, and better yet, any photos of her?

Wrong Y7, the boiler for 68088 is very certainly at the NNR and very nearly ready to be fitted back into the frames. The boiler overhaul has all been done in house at the NNR. A visit to Beamish is on the cards when it's completed.

Picture was taken on 28th August. Side tanks in foreground, steam tested boiler in centre with frames just inside the shed in front of Class 37.

Is this the one the late Kim Malyon was working on, along with another guy?

I thought 68088 had two boilers

It only has one, there is another Y7 boiler at the GCR which belongs to the Y7 on the Middleton Railway

It had two boilers once upon a time - original and a spare. The original has long gone, I believe.
As for the other Y7 (no1310), this is progressing very well both with the chassis at Middleton and the boiler at Loughborough. It is hoped that work will be sufficiently advanced that they can be united before the end of the year. All on target for a return to service by Easter 2011.

I see. 68088 is currently on the NNR, but i would have thought as a four coupled 0F it would be too small for NNR trains and gradients. Is it going anywhere else where it might be of use?

It wont be a loco in regular service, but will be used on occasions such as special events.

the NNR did have it running a couple times before its ticket ran out.
