A group of Gwili volunteers purchased an ex- LNER brakevan (damaged by collision) from Woodhams in the 1980's as an underframe for Taff Vale Coach No.220, not quite for preservation in it's original form though!

What surely is the largest wagon to escape from Barry is B 901203, the Weltrol EJC currently at the Great Central Railway.

    Paul Bartlett's excellent site:

    http://gallery6801.fotopic.net/c751041.html

has several shots of the wagon during 1987 in front of 35011 and a GWR tender, plus other less fortunate wagons.

From Barry, it went to the Preston Park Pullman sheds in Brighton as part of that abortive scheme, and moved to the GCR when the works was demolished in 2008.
Although it has been used in anger since arrival, it was withdrawn for vacuum brake overhaul last year, (which involves lifting the mainframe off the bogies to access the cylinders and remove them for refurbishment, one end at a time!).

Well, assuming I've understood that message correctly, I think you are saying you saw a similar wagon on a lorry leaving London?

901203 hasn't been anywhere near London recently so I presume this may have been 901200 which was at Old Oak until the site was cleared. I had heard a rumour it had gone north (Toton possibly) some months ago, so it depends how long ago you saw it. Maybe it was that one.

It would indeed be a shame if 901200 got scrapped but at least 901203 is in safe hands. The other four have already gone, I believe.

Why do some people on here jump in and criticise spelling mistakes? Why not have the sense to think that the poster probably has dyslexia and not bother with their childish comments? TB has stated that he is dyslexic and I for one congratulate him on having the courage to post on this or any forum when he knows there are people like you around who jump in with your silly comments.

Well done young Alex for persevering with your dyslexia.

As T Bird Frank often say, "you cannot keep a good man down"

    Well done

I've look on the forum but I can't find any mention of the passing of Francis Blake which I'm surprised at unless I've miss it on another thread. I wonder how many locos wouldn't of made it out of Barry if it wasn't for Francis starting up the Barry Locomotive Action Group. According to the article in Railway Mag there had been 19 departures in 1974 and just one departure in 1977.
