Yesterday was a special day for the National Railway Museum at Shildon: the sister museum to the NRM at York racked up 1,000,000 visitors – 10 years ahead of schedule.

NRM Director Steve Davies and Durham County Council’s Rosemary Laxton were there to welcome these landmark visitors, the Lancaster family from Greenside: April and Stephen Lancaster and their sons, 2½-year-old Ben and 10-month-old Sam.

Check out the pictures below: the Lancasters were treated to a steam ride behind Furness Railway No.20 and a lunch at the museum café.

    Here’s to the next million!

How are vvisitor numbers calculated? Is it by people at the ticket office at the start or by enterance into the main building? Makes you wonder if it will be higher givwn some people probably head straight to the main building these days.
