See 08856 is on that list - it was a minor celebrity for a while as Allerton shed made it Liverpool Lime Street station pilot (hence the white roof).
Quite sad to see it in a state of disrepair in a siding on the approach to Didicot while on my way to the GWR 175 events.

09009/13/14/15/19 could be a better bet with any preserved railway using or have use of Southern Region EMU stock because 090xx all have waist height air connections for coupling to EMU stock. Class 091xx and 092xx never had this fitted to them when converted from class 08s to class 09s.

    Hi, New to group.
As i remember the class 60s were built with an life expectancy of 40 years with a 20 year major re-build by brush planned. its no wonder that now the 60s are in a bad state of repair as the mid life rebuild is now due/overdue on the class. I think it strange that DB/EWS (whatever the name is this week) have waited until the likes of GBRF, DRS, Freightliner & the likes have now seemingly purchased all the 66s & 70s they require.
As for preservation i think that 60100 shoiuld have a place in the NRM as the last british built mainline diesel loco built for British Rail.

I have to say that there are now actually more 60s out and about (I think the active number is 15) than there have been for quite a while.

it wouldnt surprise me if brush actually bought a couple and gave them a major overhaul and tried selling them on.

Might make sense for them to create a leasing fleet if it suited them?

Reading another forum today I see 60099 has been outshopped in Tata livery and has received a lot of new & re-furbished parts. There is also a possibility that 60015 could also enter revenue service again.

Don't normally visit this area of the forum (so plse don't tell any one ;)), but I saw this loco today on my way back from the CVR hauling a tanker train south towards Tamworth in the setting sun, and by heck it looked good. I do have a soft spot for the 60's - good looking and British built too.

Class 90's now up for grabs ....

.... or are they selling off WD 2-8-0s from the strategic reserve??!! :)

BTW I believe that the class 60s did not realise their reserve prices.

I believe one of the 90s has a tree growing in it, but then, so did an IC125 power car that is now back in service.

It seems to me that DB are in a rush to get rid of all unwanted locos. What will be next? On a different note but on the same topic I see that freight Liner are to reinstate class 47/8s with 47811/830 and a possible third loco 47816 to work has super shunters.

I find the article slightly confusing. Should "Super 60" read "Overhauled 60"?

Are they actually upgrading them in some way or is a "Super 60" simply a 60 that has received a proper mid-life overhaul rather than a few bits from another class member thrown in?!

Either way it is nice to hear that a fleet of 60's has a future with DB.
