I notice she flies the Red Ensign, who owns her?The whistles are still steam but main propulsion is diesel electric so technically she is now M.V.I sailed in several diesel electric ships from about 1967 until 1971,a very flexible and reliable form of propulsion.I can only remember one breakdown which was a brush fire in a propulsion motor.

Seems to be making a bit of a comeback Colin. I know a few of the new lighthouse tenders are diesel electric and its been seen in the latest tug designs too.

Not sure who owns Nahlin now but will keep my ear to the ground. I know a few people within the superyacht industry.

    Regards
    Chris

Thanks Chris, Trinity House had five diesel electric ships when I worked there in the late 1960s,THV Patricia dated from the the 1930s.There is now a more modern Patricia, the old one ended up as a restaurant somewhere in the N.Germany/Baltic area I think.I think a lot of the latest cruise liners are also diesel electric using the same power sources for hotel supply, main propulsion, thrusters and auxiliary power.
    Colin.
The older Patricia was still in use as a restaurant in Stockholm in 2009 and was built by Smiths Dock in 1938.I guess she might still be there.
