    How old are you?

Ploughman was attempting to explain why the 'caption' was incorrect.

It would be a pity for the trainspotters to be wrongly informed about the science of levelling and the various types of road/rail plant out there.

This has just been released from the Bluebell:

The pilot run of waste removal form Imberhorne cutting by rail is now fixed for July 6th which is very close to the planned opening of East Grinstead station scheduled for Saturday 3 Jul so it has been decided to focus on the long awaited ‘Waste by Rail’ event rather than the station opening which will now officially take place in September.
East Grinstead site will be host to the invited guests and the press form 1800 on Tuesday 6th July (entry via north end site gate 1) in order to see the first official train. Members and public are also welcome to attend (£2.00 entry charge in advance) although space is limited at the site so either book early through Sheffield Park Sales and Information office or entry on the evening price £2.50

Great news. I hope somebody videos the event as I won't be able to visit. It is my wife's birthday that day. How inconsiderate of her!

A few photos from tonights 'Waste by Rail' night at East Grinstead. I did not stay to see the train leave as it wasn't till 9.10pm, but as there will be 26 weeks of trains in the future I am sure I will catch one somewhen!

Although there are still plenty of spoil trains to go how big a hole did the one yesterday make in the tip?

Would be interested to know metres cubed per wagon?

How much more waste do they have to move (thought I heard 500 metres but can't be sure). So are the trials running up to Friday or Saturday.

Great pictures. I was expecting much more whole rubbish in the shot like tyres and plastic as opposed to rotted down material that seems to have the texture of earth.

When the rubbish went in I guess there was a lot less plastic packaging than today so more material has had chance to decay. At the other ends do the trucks tip directly in to the waggons or is there another spoil pile and excavator? There is almost a case for a conveyor and direct discharge in to the waggons.

Don't know in cubic metres, but the figures in weight are 18 wagons and 1000 tons per train, so 5000 tons in the trial dig.

Assuming the trial is successful, that leaves around 100,000 tons to go, or 100 - 110 trains, according to the Mid Sussex times .

Well according to the Bluebell 10% of the tip has been cleared this week and more trains may run again in October. More info on the Bluebell site.

A couple of comments in case someone knowlegable is reading: The wagons don't look very big - couldn't bigger ones have been used to remove more spoil per trip? Secondly, it is stated that this one week trial has removed 10% of the spoil and that the 3-4 weeks of planned work around October is expected to remove another 10% - that seems like quite a fall off in performance - is it because the method of removal becomes progressively less efficient as more of the tip is removed?
