Not long for this train now. I can't wait to hear 6024 and 5029's wonderful GWR bark along the sea wall, over the Devon Banks and into Cornwall. I can't think of any better locos to pull this train.

What an excellent way to celebrate GWR175!!!

    6024: Padd - ESD
    5029 + 6024: ESD - Par
    D1015: Par - Penzance

Tickets arrived this morning. No timings yet.
Letter confirms D1015 from Par to Penzance. It will be 6024 +5029 from Penzance on the Monday, they will travel down to Penzance in the early hours on the wrong line. Network Rail estimate it will cost up to £ 10 million pounds to restore the clearances at the affected bridge at Hayle.

£10 MILLION for a bridge??? It's nothing a few sticks of dynamite can't sort out, surely! :)

What's wrong with that? Steam Dreams have obviously had to battle to get the 2 GWR Steam Locos to Penzance and if this is the only way they can do it then fantastic! At least it's a BR(W) Diesel hauling the non-steam legs.

I'm looking forward to seeing them down on the sea wall. Great Stuff!

  7. i too am looking forward to this trip with our King and 5029. Its going to be a VERY long weekend for all the crews with a stupid o'clock start back to Penzance, but more than made up for by two of the GW's finest, whatever the colour of the stock!

True, but it's still a little disappointing not to arrive at Penzance with steam (or at least Truro). Still, as you say, SD have done their best and it should be a great weekend.

I'll give you a wave, if I'm on the right side of the train!

Any news on the repairs to 5029? I spoke to a guy at the weekend who is on this and he had heard that 5029 might not be ready. Fingers crossed she will be.

I spoke to a chap that works at Didcot and he said that everything was repaired. Let's hope what he said was true! :)

Talk on Red Dragon was 9am off Pad, 8pm at Penzance on Saturday, 9am off Penzance, 9pm at Pad on Monday. Only rough times but seems about right. Anyone know what the stock is? I didn't think WCRC used 6024 or D1015?

WCRC drove D1015 during GB3, and I don't think there's any problem with them driving 6024, either. It's just that most of her recent work has been for Torbay Express who use DBS.
