Nice sight for an early morning and 48151 looks immaculate.

48151 & 70013 (70048) well and truly flattened Diggle this morning. Must have heard them about a fair few minutes before they came into sight! Will hopefully be popping over to Hebden Bridge this evening.

Well done all involved with making todays run happen, a great cause, give generously eh !

Heres my rather mediocre effort from Diggle this morning, sun had been beating down an hour before, typical !
    Thank for the updates Ralph.

Looks more like an internet/server problem rather than a log in issue, you are usually asked to log in if required. You are just getting a plain "Document not found" message.

I went to Astley crossing where it was busier than usual so I had to take my photos on the wrong side for the sun. Then off to Diggle which was a bit dull but the locos were certainly going well there on the climb to Standedge. Then off to see Bittern at Wilmslow.

Thanks to Ralph for the updates, Matt for the brew and Phil for giving the gallery a laugh with his stepladders at Diggle!

A big thank you to all involved who made this event possible today. Those who were linesiding, please donate a few quid to the Help for Heroes fund. No "freeloading" today! :thumb:

Just to reiterate what has been said earlier even a £5.00 donation helps in a small way. So come on you linesiders, I'm sure it cost you more to get your photo's and videos so an extra fiver won't hurt. http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/donations.html

Main line steam around Manchester 27 March 2010

In the morning, an immaculate Stanier 2-8-0 No 48151 headed the 14 coach Help for Heroes charity special through Patricroft in a lucky moment of sunshine. Train engine is the Britannia running as 70048 The Territorial Army.

At lunchtime A4 Pacific No 60019 Bittern arrived (hauling two tenders) at a packed Manchester Piccadilly on the Palatine from Euston.

Instead of the planned move to Guide Bridge, the train moved only to Ashburys, from where Bittern made an early departure, arriving at Stalybridge at 15.30. She then sat in the loop until about 16.15 when she finally left for Huddersfield and York .

Just got home after a fabulous trip, for a great cause, you could not ask for more.
As I was forced to consume virtually a whole bottle of red with my meal on the way back I'm not sure how this will come out so errors may be present...
Albert and Bill were in charge on the way out and there where hundreds of people out at the lineside all the way.
Peter Walker and Mick Kelly doing the honours on the return and again many people out to see us past. All as usual did a great job and despite the 8F being limited to 50ish we managed to run to time most of the way.

I was lucky to get an update from Sowerby Lad on the progress of Bittern and was at a window with the camera rolling when she passed heading for York with much whistling from all. Videos will be sorted tomorrow.

Now the important part, all those at the lineside taking video and pictures, go to http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/donations.html the cause is a very worthy one and as you probably know, everyone involved with the running of this train have given their services free, including Network Rail so please help and make your donation....

    Ralph.

One thing I forgot to mention, the attitude of some of the railway police on York Station was unacceptable, as the train was backing the stock into platform 11, several photographers were warned loudly that photography as not allowed, however although I did not see this, it is alledged that a few minutes later, one of the said officers then walked off the end of the platform and took pictures of the locos on his phone.......
