Schools Class on a Ballast Train

    Has a Schools ever been used on a ballast working before?

    That wasn't posed for the camera either. The shed 08 was needed on the depot, and the serviceable mainline diesels are the wrong side of the bridge.

    possibly -- passenger engines were often put to such mundane uses once they'd been displaced from their original intended duties by diesels -- work for which often they were not particularly suited.

    I wonder why 30926 was chosen for this work - one would have thought 76079 woudl have been better suited to the job.

    it was chosen for this job because it was organised by one of the people involved in replacing the bridge and he wanted this locomotive.
