What a wonderful idea for Valentine's Day. A romantic drive through the countryside of Somerset and Wiltshire.
....and lunch at Upton Scudamore. <BJ>

Some 10 mins up passing through the old Bratton & Edington station site. Going at a far speed, but how quite she is, compared to Bittern yesterday.

Tornado passed Upton Scudamore 5 mins or so early. The loco was going really well with 14 on. Certainly not quiet here. Magnificent !! <BJ>

I was doing sound at Upton Scudamore - superb recording. Sun went in just before she passed the main gallery only to come out again shortly afterwards. Someone, somewhere must have got it in sun. Next saw it at Idmiston on the climb away from Salisbury, no sun at all but going great guns. Against all the odds I caught her again at Langley after the Slough stop. Very dull and no urgency at all to her progress.

I was going to ask if she had 14 on or 11 on?? If she had 14 on quite an achievement!!! Well done to the loco and the crew hauling that baggage all day behind her!! Did she start off from Waterloo??

When did a tour last have such a monstrous load ? the Tornado factor showing no sign of letting up.

The reason for the slow run towards Paddington was pathing for the engineering work. With only the relief lines open between Hayes & Slough - Tornado was due to follow a local service past the block, after allowing one HST to overtake. Some HSTs were pathed in a similar fashion today.

Excellent video as usual by the Wilson boys, always look forward to your updates, especially Upton Scudamore. How does the load of this train today compare with the VSOE, is that still heavier?

One thing that I noted on Tornado when she came to rest under Span 1, was that her driving wheels were illuminated!

to david 1984,re-montrous load on westbury bank(upton scudamore) think back to saturday,21st november.2009,35028 clan line +13plus a class 67 diesel on the rear, from a standing start at westbury into a strong headwind and pouring rain,35028 made a spectacular ascent of the bank in atrocious weather.the sound was stunning as was the clag, ashame it wasn't daylight all this without the loco 'blowing off' ' just the heavy beat of 35028.unfortunately my dat sound recorder didn't like the weather conditions and gave up but luckily i do have some video.there are other locos other than 'tornado' that are equally spectacular without all the benefits of modern day technoligy.
