    Bean-Counter;

    Steve, a straightforeward question for you: If the NYCC money is not forthcoming, will you still go ahead and replace Bridge 30?

    Sorry, needs asking.

    Thanks Steve and Steve for the news/update regarding the last weekend of normal operations.

    Glad to hear it wasn't as bad as I was told!!

    As for the rosters being posted, I am sick to the back teeth of "the NYMR works it locos harder than any other line in the world blah, blah, blah"......

    You are "leaning against an open door" with that argument as I don't need telling!

    Others might, but not me.

    I am fully aware of the situation and as per postings to NYMR forum around the time of the autumn steam event.

    This is all that is needed;

    The NYMR always gets my support year in year out, diesel, steam events, normal running days etc, with about 15 visits per year by me plus whoever I manage to bring with me, rosters are very nice (to plan your days when lots of locos are advertised and you pick the day that loco XXXX it isn't booked out), so lets hope they stick with the format for the bridge 30 event and get the praise that comes with it.

    I will never complain that a roster is wrong as I don't live in cloud cuckoo land

    Yesterday was a very dry day (at home) while another dry day (Saturday) was at the East Lancs steam gala.

    Best of luck with bridge 30 over the closed season and here is looking towards 27th March 2010.

    Best Regards

    As another of those who 'frequently go on about the NYMR not providing loco rosters', I was very pleased that they put out the planned loco roster for this weekend.
    Ok, things didn't go according to plan, but at least they did their best. That's all we ask...

    The answer has to be yes, the bare minimum will be done to replace the bridge - the associated work on surrounding track will be cut back to that which is essential. The balance will then have to be added to the bank loan.

    As I explained yesterday to the end of season Open Forum, the amount raised by the Bridges and Wheels Appeal means that having to borrow the balance would be manageable but still unwelcome - the lower the balance, the less extra the borrowings will affect the speed with which other works and developments can be undertaken as an extra slice of cash will be needed each year for repayments of the loan.

    Had it been necessary to borrow the whole sum, this would have more than doubled the bank loan but the other alternative would have been (at best) a year of running with restricted axle limit locos and then no running at all over the bridge - not an alternative any of us wanted to seriously have to think about - strangle outselves with debt or - no other real option.

    The efforts so far on fund raising have meant we could consider managing extra debt for the balance if we have to but it would affect the Railway for years to come and make that margin of safety in the bad years that much tighter. Many fear things will be harder for tourist businesses next year and the year after, so it is not a time to have heavy debt commitments.

    That is why we are still hpoing and praying that the NYCC money comes through.

    Steven
