Excursion preston scarborough sat 5th Sept.

46115 brought the train into Carnforth at 2024, one hour early. It then went on shed for coal, water, turning and fire cleaning, while 47760 took the train into the loop. 46115then backed tender-first onto the rear of the train. The ensemble set off for Preston at 2240. 47245 had earlier taken the Yorkshire Scot ECS to Preston. 46115 was reportedly carrying its 'The Girl Guide' plates from Scarborough.

46115's very early return to Carnforth last night scuppered the night shots I had planned. I had guessed it would be early - but not by one hour! Anyway, here is a shot of it in near darkness leaving Steamtown after servicing. I hope it makes up in atmosphere for what it lacks in every other department!

I think the comments most heard lineside yesterday were probably "Well it was glorious when I left the house" or "It would be great if it it turned up now" usually as the preceeding service train potters past in full sun- my growing collection of DMU's in full sun is becoming rather impressive!
