Hoping to ride / video in August, but am I right in thinking that the departure over Knaresborough viaduct is on the morning run?
    Thanks in anticipation.

One photo from York this evening up now at

    http://5944.fotopic.net/p59922056.html

A reasonable run around the circle. Nothing spectacular, but kept pretty much to time apart from losing a few minutes on the climb up to Bramhope tunnel, which was easily made up before York.

Had a bit of a chase round today, so here goes with 3 shots
...the bottom shot approaching Rigton level crossing
....then passing Ulleskelf. Great to meet you Stuart!!
......and finally crossing Kirkstall viaduct this evening with a bit of sun for a change

Nice shots, you certainly put in some mileage today but well worth it.
Lovely light for your last one at Kirkstall.

    Good luck at Horbury tomorrow.

I like that Kirkstall shot. I'm hoping the weather is nice 1 day next week so I can try the silhouette shot from the other side of the viaduct. Hopefully a 300 mile round trip won't be wasted for one crap shot!

    Cheers Lads
I've been after that Kirkstall shot for ages - but never managed to get the right conditions. According to the other snappers on the bridge (who seemed to know a hell of a lot about weathery type stuff) next week maybe the last week to catch the evening light down there.
...and on that note 5944 you might want to bring a brolly with you - it's a wee bit dreek up here still!
.....don't even mention Horbury Stuart - great location, nice light, even time for a bacon butty and a cup of tea - but come the "money shot" my camera's autofocus packs up and refuses to fire the shutter. Where's my FM2 when I need it!

Have decided to book instead of just jumping on next week, so we are on board on Tuesday, Leeds to Scarborough.
    Can't wait!

Does anyone know what platform it usually comes into Leeds on?

How busy are the trains at the moment?

I'm planning to have a morning off work and travel York to York, I've turned up and paid on the day in previous years, but with the sold out Fellsmans and Scarborough Flyers I'm wondering if it might be wise to book and pay the £3.75 booking and credit card fee?

    You should be Ok.
The busy section is York to Scarborough and back but there's been plenty of seats available on both circles so far and to and from Scarborough haven't been full. Numbers will probably build up towards the Bank Holiday but even then, you'll shouldn't have any problems getting on for a circle.
Those booking fees? Can't understand it myself. I'd have expected a discount for on-line booking not having to pay extra but West Coast always have to be different!

Good to hear of splendid running with Leander tonight - just my luck to be the trusty substitute when speakers fail to turn up

Suspected swine flu - didn't want to infect you all!

Still - the truck and bus contingent seemed to enjoy our DVD of the GBII

Not missing Wednesday or Thursday though!

I think it was Platform 9 if anyone is interested.
Good to see the information boards showing that it was the Scarborough Spa Express and which platform it was due at both at Leeds and Scarborough.
Great run in both directions, especially on the way back as we kept having to slow and then start again because of the late running Trans Pennine Express in front of us.
I think that the West Coast Staff do a great job as well and should be applauded. Our booking was handled very well and the whole trip ran like clockwork.
    Another great day out.

There is quite a bit of space on the train for the 'circle' run, but I expect that is because it is quite late by the end of the day. Great evening trip if you live in York though!

Obligatory shot of engine at Scarborough.
