Scarborough Spa Express Footage 2009 - Week 6 Complete

What a cracking day to start the season off, 45407 looked and sounded fab, I decided to take an easy day especially with the dam drizzle conditions both this morning and afternoon and therefore just did Knaresborough viaduct and Church Fenton shots today.
Many thanks to Ian for arranging the whistling this morning over the viaduct sounded perfect :D... You really can't beat that Black 5 Whistle :D

I've uploaded both the shots from this morning and evening and will continue to do so throughout the summer and they will also be on our Summer Steam DVD.

I'm thinking Bramhope tunnel tomorrow morning and then Hornbeam Park & Cattal in the evening.

    Tuesday's Footage Available Here

Nice Vids, the shot on the Nidd Viaduct at Knaresborough must rate as one of the iconic sites for steam in the country.

If you want a good spot after Knaresborough there is a farm crossing on the left of the A59 just after the layby on the first bends when leaving the end of the bypass. On a long straight and the locos are gaining speed here before passing the site of the old Flaxby station (still there)

Yeah i love the Knaresborough shot, thanks for the advice I'm going to give the Golf course crossing a whirl either next week or the week after. Just returned from Bramhope tunnel, managed to get to it this time \:D/ Video will be uploaded later this evening after the return leg.

Thanks for the video it looks superb. The wife and I are coming up to York in the first week of September and having a ride on Wednesday the 2nd. Really hoping that Scots Guardsman will be pulling the train when we have our ride as the loco would be a new cop for me. [-o<

Re: Scarborough Spa Express Footage 2009

Thanks for the info. Cromwell will be still be nice as I've never had a ride behind her anyway. Hopefully I'll get another chance to cop Scots Guardsman as we're catching the train from York back to Eastbourne on the 5th Sept. and either Guardsman, Leander or the 8F is on excursion from Preston via York to Scarborough in the morning so fingers crossed for that.

Well start to week two and back to the typical Yorkshire weather ](*,)
I did Manston Crossing this morning and Huddleston Grange on Micklefield Bank on the return, I was going to venture over near Poppleton for a further shot although the weather deteriorated rapidly this evening.

All being well, tomorrow morning on the S&C for 5690 (in the pouring rain #-o ) and then back to film the SSE somewhere on the return.

Re: Scarborough Spa Express Footage 2009 - *Week 2 Added*

Well only captured the return of the SSE today due to 'The Fellsman' this morning, however the 2nd shot from this evening is most certainly in my all time favourites! The sunset was out of this world... I will let the footage tell the story itself. The first shot was from Church Fenton curve followed by Marston Moor Crossing.

    Wednesday's Scarborough Spa Express Footage

    5690 With 'The Fellsman'

More good stuff Simon, Leeds looked good in the rain.

Just one thing, it's Crimple Viaduct not Cripple! ;-)

Re: Scarborough Spa Express Footage 2009 - Week 2 Complete!

The Marston Moor shot may be your favourite because you were there, probably already gobsmacked by the sunset by the time you sterted filming. Mine, though, is that departure from Knaresborough; the asthmatic whistle - which is why it's so evocative, the wheezing hiss from the cylinders against the chug of the exhaust (can't call it a bark on a Black Five), the backdrop that shouts "Yorkshire!" to many exiles, the superbly turned out matching rake of WCRC coaches (what a contrast to Bittern's Brighton Belle!). Wow!

All in all, that's a varied and fascinating collection of shots from the two weeks. Well planned and well executed. Follow Black Fives around a bit more and you'll end up single-handedly making that workhorse class a loco of preference for tourers and operators.

Makes me look forward to your Jubilee vids.

I'm glad your enjoying the footage so far "tfftfftff86" I too enjoyed the Knaresborough viaduct shot but then again i've enjoyed everything i've done so far.

    Blimey Simon,

You must have got a move on to beat 45407 to Crimple from Leeds.
