    Having stewarded a few FS tours over the years it seems far harder to keep control than on a lot of regular railtours, I suspect due to a far higher percentage of folks that never normally use the train at all and railtour "rookies".
    From posts on other forums Avanti (at least) seem to have a different policy out of the major TOC's

    I had a quick visit to York today to see Flying Scotsman, the 2 Fox & Edwards tours, Chesterfield to York, then York to Newcastle.
    Originally scheduled to come in on P11 this was later changed to P9

    There was about a 30 minute layover while all the passengers on the Chesterfield to York trip got off, and the passengers for the York to Newcastle part got on!!
    It then left dead on time for Newcastle

    No timings on RTT yet, but the provisional timings on the website show just 20 minutes between arrival back at Didcot from the first circuit and departure on the second circuit. That is far too little time to shunt the train into Didcot Railway Centre, detach and turn the loco, run round and get back to the station. Is it even enough time to turn on the triangle, fitting in with regular traffic?

    It doesn't need to be turned. Arrives from the west, departs to the east. But I would have thought coal and water were needed in the 20 minutes.

    Maybe. There is the half hour stop at Newbury Racecourse where presumably the loco will be serviced. So will that first stop at Newbury on the morning run be sufficient to allow it to complete that circuit back to Didcot and then take the first section of the afternoon run back to Newbury, where it will again be serviced for the second section of the afternoon run.

    Shouldn't need coal during the day, 266 miles (F&E saying 133 miles for each trip), with the 37 assisting again, should be doable. Water at Challow on the approach to Didcot on the first run?

    While to some extent comparing apples with pears, I should think both loops are well within 60103's operating range where coal is concerned. Watering will likely be factored in en-route.
