We all make mistakes, but that does suggest failure to engage brain.

Isn't the day marketed as two separate trips?
Derby to York in the morning with a " classic diesel" then FS comes on at York before taking the train to Scarborough for a couple of hours, on returning to York it takes the Derby to York morning passengers back to Derby. Booked off York around 18.30 according to the adverts, so like you say a lot of the journey after sunset.
FS is down for a Stourbridge Junction to Bristol on Saturday, not sure of where it will go in-between Wednesday and Saturday.

Timings for FS tours normally come out 24-48 hours before the tour

I'd like to photograph FS at Ashley Down Station in the morning -- is it likely to use the fast line or the local stopping one?

A very long day . Ten hours in Bristol for those boarding at Stourbridge and a sixteen hour day Journey wise

Whilst I understand the commercial reasoning for effectively two tours same day to increase the return , it will be interesting to see how the market reacts to this mode of operation
