    Anything that is LMS and decent in the north west would be nice to see instead of a Scot trotting off to a heritage railway gala because there is nothing else for it to do.

    Oh yes indeed! My only Jub run was on the famous 10.17 Leeds-Carlisle service in 1967. A good climb and 80 mph down the other side.

    I'm not sure how copyright works with Annabel Ingelworthy helping me ( I will remove the following if Annabel says so) but she has just told me:

    The 10:17 Leeds to Carlisle (originally extending to Glasgow) via the Settle & Carlisle line was one of the most famous regular passenger train schedules during the "Indian Summer" of British steam in the summer of 1967. [1, 2, 3]
    This specific service became legendary among rail enthusiasts because it was one of the very last regular, non-railtour express duties assigned to the LMS Jubilee Class 4-6-0 locomotives before they were withdrawn from service

    One of the biggest regrets in my life was missing the 10-17 in the summer of '67. :(
    I sampled it briefly in the summer of '66 when it was 10-15 off Leeds but in '67 I think I must have been distracted!:rolleyes:

    Don't worry, I won't be freeloading/linesiding, I can do that at Bury with our Spamcan if I feel the need, I was merely trying to inject some mirth into what has been a very difficult season. My money goes into heritage railways/rover tickets, I feel it is better spent for me and the railway/engines. Mainline steam has little interest to me these days, all power to those who stump up their cash for this form of entertainment, especially if it's the same loco time and time again!

    Tbf, I would feel the same if it wasn't for Vintage Trains who I have a third booking with now this year. All with different locos, all from different regions and all different wheel arrangements too!!
    It is a shame as there are some firm favourites of mine hibernating at 10A, at least one is escaping to the SVR. It may not recreate the trip I had to Inverness behind it in 2012 (come on SRPS!), but least it can be seen in action.

    I haven't time to look them up now, but from memory there were two near consecutive Saturdays only Holbeck Jube runs over the S&C in those last summers. From memory, one started in Birmingham and the other in Nottingham. One had a relief, Peak-hauled, I recall once putting my camera away at the incoming roar of what I thought was merely a BR-Sultzer Type 4 only for the clag of a Jube to appear - the three-cylinder roar of a Jube in full cry against the gradient had me fooled...

    The current Issue of Heritage Railway has that magnificent run with Galatea from 2018 that I was on. A great performance over both Shap and Ais Gill. I know that the world moves on but in terms of what is now on offer in the north west things have moved backwards for no good reason.
