There are quite a few extra things going on. Britomart will double head Welsh Pony on the 12:30 Port - TYB train on Saturday. Also footplate rides with Vellinheli at Porthmadog that day.
Sunday and Monday there are two Aberglaslyn services with Prince and Palmerston. In the layovers the train will work an extra Beddgelert - Hafod-y-llyn shuttle. So a good day for watching or riding behind England Engines and vintage coaches in the pass.

 

We've been staying in the area for 10 days or so, managing a 'Mountain Spirit' last Thursday and, due to the weather forecast, taking the 'Snowdonia Star' today from Waunfawr.

Whilst the biggest issue last week was slipping on James Spooner which cost us 15 minutes, today was a bit more dramatic as a spring collapsed on No 87, noticed on arrival at Rhyd Ddu. We were already about 15 minutes late at that point and we had to wait for a replacement engine (No. 143) to come up from Dinas. Total waiting time was about 110 minutes before we finally got going. Credit to the staff for sorting it out, although if I were being critical I would note that slightly more regular updates would have been useful.

Arrival at Porthmadog was about 2 hours late, and 25 minutes was cut from the scheduled layover time.

Passengers were very patient, although some of the 'enthusiasts' on board could do with learning basic social etiquette, particularly around family groups.

Thanks for that. Some unusual haulage. Will aim for some of those I think! At present I’m heading from Minffordd to Penrhyn behind JS. Somewhat damp in the toastrack - I have the coach to myself!
