At the Danish Railway Museum in Odense, they built an authentic replica of the country's first steam locomotive from 1846. Like so many first generation steam locomotives of that era, the original "Odin" was also built in England by Sharp Brothers. It was launched in 1847 on Denmark's first railway from Copenhagen to Roskilde. Although the 2-2-2 "Odin" was already scrapped in 1876, at which time it was hopelessly outdated, engineering plans survived in archives and this made it possible to produce a rebuild at the museum's own workshop from 2005 to 2018.

During the summer weeks in July and August (plus select other dates), the locomotive is steamed for the public and runs with two matching period coaches, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, doing a roughly 1 mile round-trip on the museum grounds every 30 minutes. The rebuild is actually so detailed, that the front wooden buffers of the engine also use horse hair and brown leather for padding. That of course gives a whole new dimension to the level of hand-crafted artistry that was applied to this project by DSB staff.

Here is some recent footage from "Odin" in action this August.
