It sure is. Scotland is even worse than the south.

 

It's a Wednesday so 2253 is out, booked to work the diner at lunch. Then I assume it'll spend the next 6 days being fettled before reappearing next week. Still no sign of 926 - has it even done any loaded running yet? It did a few runs to Goathland and back light engine in July, but I've not seen anything for a couple of weeks.

If anybody wants them, drop me a message and you can just pay postage. Otherwise I'll have to recycle them probably, since I'm not close to the railway itself presently...

As I keep saying, it is crewing that is the main reason why 2253 is not being used more. Having said that, I’m getting vibes that its performance isn’t as good as hoped for.

 

It would be interesting to know how she is performing against expectations. She certainly seems to be producing plenty of power so I'm assuming the issue is burning more fuel doing that than expected. But they did say 2026 would be the learning year of fettling and training and different fuels. Those take time and miles unfortunately. I think the issue here is she's out and running in another dry summer without much other steam. So all eye's are on this project and there's nowhere to hide.

 

Good to see Repton allocated to the 1035 & 1440 trips today between Grosmont and Pickering (31128 doing the Whitby bits).

 

But how and why? The last info advised it was on running in turns and would top and tail a service train before entering traffic properly yet when I was there last week it was sat cold on shed and as far as I'm aware it hasn't been out on further testing as such.

 

I believe she only did the one run in the end with 31128 carrying on for the second round trip to Pickering. Not sure if they found something that needed adjusting, or just that they'd lost too much on the timetable already. They were certainly around 15 down at that point.

 

926 was originally pencilled in to haul the Moorlander on Tuesday but was pulled due to the dry weather. 2253 covered this turn on Wednesday but not used on Thursday. I'm guessing there has been sufficient rain to allow 926 to be used today and it is also rostered for the 10.35 and 14.40 ex Grosmont on Friday.

 

Today's (Wednesday) loco roster shows Repton working Gosmont - Whitby despite the statement re fire risk. S160 not out, having previously worked some Wednesdays.

 

Seems like a decision made this morning. S160 not out as no qualified crew available. I think it’s been decided to use the down time to bring forward the boiler washout.

 

Just heard a steam train heading into Whitby for the first time in weeks, sounding like it was working very hard also. I went online to look at the loco roster to read no steam services are running due to fire risk! In addition to this we have had a fair amount of rain recently and land is not as dry and parched grass has turned green again. All very confusing.

 

AGM allegedly postponed.

I guess that answers the question about whether the NR steam ban includes Whitby then?
Unless the NTMR think it's a diesel, which their statement up-thread would seem to indicate that they do.
